Today was also my bday, and thank you for this awesome surprise. When I went on the site and read all of it, even when I knew about everything already, I jumped with joy (literally).
Simultaneously great and bad news with the release date. Great because it's finally set and its not far off. Bad because it's right before my summer school finals so I won't get to play it much till fall semester starts. Oh well, I'm sure I can work a little play time in.

I think everyone out there is not "sheep." There have been delays, yes, but we have evidence, namely the beta forum, that the entire time was spent actively working on the next release.

Erm... nice job avoiding the filter. So, changing the release number may be a PR ploy, but at least its accompanied by a solid release date. In truth, whether its NS1.1 or NS2.0 is rather irrelevant. Again, we have evidence in the form of changelogs and beta discussion, telling us the next release is significantly different. Also, is it really so wrong to have people excited about the next release of NS? If I spent this much time developing and play-testing the next release, I wouldn't want it to be a mediocre event.

Would you rather have the game a month earlier in a half-finished state? I understand there may be some nervousness about it turning into vapor-ware, but I feel this is definitely not a Team Fortress 2 situation. I have heard no "It will be released on X day or in X amount of time", until now. The entire play-test period gave no firm deadlines, other than some hints from some of the testers that it will be "soon."
I believe there is no attempt to cover up what will be a long series of delays. This is all the beginning of the "PR blitz" that will lead to the release of 1.1 or 2.0 or whatever you want to call it.
