Respawning Times

Beta Discussion
I've seen in the beta forums that there has been a great problem with aliens respawn times. It can take over a min for the alien team to fully respawn after an early game rush.

The suggestion has been that the aliens are given a DoD like respawn system (and possibly the marines, but I think it should only apply to the aliens as this would make the teams even more different). This respawn system means that when one alien dies a respawn timer is started, when this timer runs out this person and everyone who has died since respawns.

I think this would make the aliens more responsive and add to the deversity between the different sides. It will also help stop hive camping.

well now I will open this up to comments and suggestions.

Why not a respawn timer like Enemy Territory? Everyone dead spawns every 20 seconds, the 20 seconds is a timer that keeps reseting after it hits 0. If nobody is dead at the 20 second mark, it still resets and counts down again and again. This would balance all the respawn problems that I can see and makes it even for both teams. Set the timers to start at random so that both teams don't respawn at the same time making it slightly harder to figure out when the other team will respawn.

Take away the whole IP system and implement the comm chair as the main "spawn" or make permanent spawn portals that can be damaged. Would prevent relocation probably (unless you went with the chair as the marines "hive"). There are up and downsides to this I'm sure but I'm too tired to figure them out right now

A big "maybe" here. This would eliminate spawncamping as we know it, but would make the endgame longer, as the marines would be assailed by hordes of frantic skulks when they move for the last hive. You could increase the time it takes to spawn, but I think this would mean longer respawn times on average. You sometimes wait quite long when a lot of teammates die simultaneously, but most of the time there are only one or two dead players at any given moment, and then the respawn times aren't that long.
At any hand, implementing it now would need careful testing, tweaking, balancing, meaning it would take even longer time before 1.1 is released. This is, if at all, a feature for 1.2 or later versions.

It's been said over and over. Alien respawn times have taken a backseat mostly due to marine being able to freely control theirs. Need to outspawn the aliens? 2 IPs. Need to get the team back into action? Distress bacon.

Aliens spawn at 10 seconds again. Right now it is 8. Well looks like I'm gonna have to bring a book for those spare 2 seconds I'm gonna lose!

It's also a HUGE HUGE probelm on large servers.

So it's actually not "beacon" but "emergency bacon"?

    noone calls it beacon .

If all the marines are dead, you gotta hit up the bacon.

I really do think the aliens need something thats like the distress bacon if the dod like system isn't put in.

I think that aliens should respawn in waves, but in small waves of 2 per hive.

    So just to restate that:

For every hive, you can respawn a la the DoD system, but only for 2 aliens max.

At the stage one hive, aliens would spawn in two times as fast as they do now, and getting more hives = many more spawns.

I would prefer having aliens respawn immediately, but I suspect it would be very hard to balance.

Love the idea in that post of aliens spawning right away, it shows how aliens really fear death when in the concept of the game they actually are not. Skulks are suicides that come back quick to strike again; plain and simple.
Also like the idea by Lura where you start off as a babbler because its a step in the right direction to balance the spawn times.

if aliens spawned that quickly their health would probably have to be significantly reduced.

What I wonder is how movement chambers underneath the hive affects the spawn time - it's said that it decreases it, but noone has said how much. If the effect mirrors the marine cost for IP, ie MCs at the same cost of IP's halves spawntime, then the aliens does have a way of handling large games. OTOH, if you need to put down 8 MC's to halve the spawntime, then forget about it.

The biggest issue here would of course be that in large games, you are basically FORCED to go MC to increase spawn capacity.

Well now you have a reason to siege. Inside the hive should never be a friendly place anyways.
