Being a WWII lover, I immeadately checked the trailer. MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT. From the gun's they're historicly incorrect, the level's look reall straight forward and closed in. And the Misc. guns shooting in the air in the backround look REALLY bad, streaks of pure white going into the sky for no reason, stupid. Might be worth it once it's $9.99.

what part was that? I saw an american with a thompson, a russian with a PPsh and some the usual garand and russian rifles assortment.

Please explain.
.
The streaks are tracers shooting at planes. Look nice to me. but thats IMO

Uh.. They aren't historically incorrect, buddy. Either point them out, or get glasses. Either way, you win!

The Thompson was uber skinny, it wasn't even funny. Also the Bren was being used so easily as a Automatic.
• XaniethXanieth Join Date: 2002-11-06 Member: 7280Members
You know, I probably should have watched it twice. The Bren would fly up into your face if you fired it like that.

Feh. Looks a bit too fast paced, and some of the running animations look weird.
• LikuLiku I, am the Somberlain. Join Date: 2003-01-10 Member: 12128Members
Fast Paced is something else! I don't mind a little bit of fast action in games, but this is ridiculous. I think they're added things to heighten the pace and kill your computer faster.

looks like they completely forgot about recoil... And is anyone else reminded of the "prancing" marines? I know the soldiers were far from "prancing" but every time I see a wierd running animation I think of that.
And like everyone else said its way too fast paced.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about. No game is perfect. It looks quite good, and your judging the whole gameplay by what ? 1 or 2 models ? And the fact that they're shooting a little fast ?

I think you guys are getting way ahead of yourselves.

the bren does look like balls. but the trailer has its high points.

but there are some things that you need to consider with ww2 games.

NUMBER 1
but the game also shows tracers at certain points. if it has bullet velocity it'll be the only ww2 game i've ever played that has it, and thus i will buy it. i'm pretty sure IL-2 Sturmovik has it, but i've never played it.

yes, bullet velocity. lack thereof bringin games like Halo, Soldier of Fortune II, or Day of Defeat from a perfect 10 to a unfortunate, disappointing 8 in my book.

NUMBER 2
if bullets kill people, not because of difficulty, but because BULLETS KILL PEOPLE, then i might buy this game. games like MoHAA are made into crap by American and German soldiers possessing advanced kevlar or ceramic armor, or the properties thereof. even in DoD, if you're SHOT in the HEART with a LUGER, you DON'T DIE. i HATE that SO MUCH... at some points when you're shooting someone full auto with your mp40, it seems as if the damage isn't TOO unrealistic.. but if you POINT-BLANK SOMEONE WITH A GODD4MN 1911 .45acp in the chest...

NUMBER 3
physical inaccuracies are the most annoying thing in the world.

-in some games, press 1 and click and you pull out a thompson and c0ck the charging handle. ok? now when you pull it out again, you c0ck it again. why? this would surely cause jamming.

-in some games, press 1 and click and you pull out a thompson and c0ck the charging handle. ok? now when you press reload, sometimes it will reload your gun for you. this process should give you a total of 21, 31, 51, or 101 bullets, counting 1 in the chamber, and assuming a 20 or 30rd mag, or a 50 or 100rd drum, respectively. usually this does not exist.

-in most ww2 games, fire your thompson's entire mag at the wall in front of you, and i won't complain about the lack of holes (or a single gaping one if you have good aim). but i will complain about the fact that no smoke has been emitted from your gun during firing, or afterwards. at this rate, i bet if you touched the muzzle it would be as cold as ice.

NUMBER 4
the thoughts that go through your head, if you think about it, usually have nothing to do with those that the soldiers of the historical period would have experienced or had at some particular moment. (ie: storming a german bunker gung ho with your thompson and gunning down each and every german inside)

if you're being pressed by mg42s and/or sniper work from a sandbag emplacement or other enfixed resistance a good 60 yards away, you won't

run and roll into a pit,

throwing nades while somersaulting,

following the magnificent explosion with a sprint up the hill, carrying
full gear,
your garand,
a thompson,
a captured sniper rifle,
and your BAR,

firing fully automatic and hitting 80% of the time with your BAR.

this kind of thing does not exist, and neither does the temerity required to act such.

instead, you would maybe utilize a flanking sniper movement, if it was feasible without casualties. you might just walk all the way around the emplacement if you didn't find enemies in the area. but you wouldn't go gung-ho into the gawdamn thing.

just consider that situation, and the mindset the gamer was in when he could do something like that.
characteristics:
-insanity
-lack of common sense
-lack of concern for safety of self or of others

and now consider a situation where you have to STALK THROUGH AN ENTIRE SECTION OF CITY CONTAINING OVER A DOZEN HIDDEN SNIPERS, SINGLEHANDEDLY CAPTURE OMAHA BEACH, etc.

i hate that sh*t. i hate it so much. so... so much.

i do agree with you, most HL mods are like this, except the fact of carrying multiple guns in the mod Day Of Defeat. So far its the msot realistic ww2 game out there no battlefield is noting like what wars were going on... this game does in fact look very good i in fact will most liekly buy it... but i love games like in counter strike(u get these VERY RARLY), everyone in the server on dust looks out for thier teamtes, i love big shoot outs and people ducking and shooting because its so intense... what i dont like about that is people can survive 5 shots to the leg with an AK and STILL run like they were never touched,, id prefer a gamw that say u got shot in the leg, you colapse on the ground and u must crawl for a short distance, then u get abck up and limp your way, sure itll get most annoying but it would be REAL COmbat, oh and none of this medic crap i can magincally take 50 bullets out of you and ull live, ther have slow work with medics like they run up to a solider and u have to hold the use button for them to start doing the process, mabye take a min or less? so its more realistic, i hope this games like that, im sure itll be mroe team based seeing that its a 1 player game.

Hey guys...

Its a game.

I suggest Diablus and Jin-Roh that you go outside, and play some paintball.

Counter-Strike looking after team mates? LOL Funny, it's because there's few passages in the maps, like de_dust, and everyone just follows each other.

I like when you have to look after your team like, NS, and MOH:AA. But I hate losing team mates! Noooo!!! Grrr!!!

i do in fact play paintball.. thats why im agreeing with Jin-Roh's thread because its mostly realism that gets me into a game, and btw to the post under that... mabye your right but alot of the players were using mics and non seemed to be 12 year old "l337"ers because we in fact werre playing AS a TEAM and telling eachpther where to headsd up. thank you have a nice day

the most realistic FPS game on the market right now is Rainbow Six: Raven Shield

that game is SO sweet. i mean, if you shoot someone with your gun, they DIE!!! but really, i has great recoil systems, bullet velocity, i think, and excellent damage calculations and hitboxes. the movement is fckin great too! so is the aim system! hm. yeah, it's that cool.

anyway, don't tell me to go play paintball. i play airsoft, muhfuq'a. why? because... as you implied.. it's more.. REALISTIC..

edit: ok no, not crap on you. but cmon, don't tell me it's just a game.. do you enjoy having to put multiple bullets in someone's heart to get the job done? i feel like i've been ripped off when i have to do that.
• MoquiaoMoquiao Join Date: 2003-05-09 Member: 16168Members
ok airsoft rocks but it is hardly realisitic

but muh.

and yeh.. this game looks pretty weak....

i cant get into games like DoD it is hard to explain... and well.. i personally feel that i shouldnt be getting entertainment form others misery so many thousands died etc... it just doesnt make a game for me...

whereas NS... ya know future hasnt happened yet so i got nothing to feel sorry for...

my one exception is black hawk down which i do play... purely for the nostalgia effect.

its a game, it balances gameplay, and realism. do you want cables attached to your brain, so when you die in the game, you die in real life? i think the trailer looks good, but it looks extremely like a movie so it should be interesting to see what the actual game is like

jin-roh - how old are you? i seem to recall you being 12, but obviously im mistaken, because, of course, the airsoft comments

meh

I watched the trailer and honestly thought it looked quite good.
As another huge World War 2 fan i'll probably buy this game
when the cash comes around (which might take awhile considering
i'll saving my cash for a new motherboard, DDR ram and a new processor!).

True, about it looking like Enemy At The Gates, but thats one of my
all time favourite films so I don't mind.
