Kite Flying Association president Malik Shafi gave an assurance that there would be maximum co-operation to implement the safety plans.
This month, the Punjab chief minister's adviser on law and human rights, Rana Ejaz Ahmad Khan, said dangerous kite flying practices had forced the government to introduce the new murder charges.
Some of the victims had been young children, he said.
Police were instructed to carry out raids on shops selling banned strings and make arrests.
Kite flying reaches its climax during the Basant festival at the beginning of spring but is a popular pastime all year round.
The kites pose a particular threat to motorcyclists and pedestrians in busy residential areas.
People have also been killed or injured falling from buildings or by walking into the paths of cars while flying kites or gazing at them in the sky.

although i could understand banning metallic string, why on earth ban kites, the pasttime your whole country enjoys? (really, they do a lot of kite flying...)

I've seen some people battle with kites that have have strings coated in glass, man that ban sounds like something you would run across in my screwed up town
I heard about the dogfighting before - it's kind of neat. The opponent cuts the string of another person's kite, and if he/she has uber kite flying skills, he/she can wrap his/her kite around the loser's detatched kite and claim it.
You'd think that people would have more common sense to watch where they're going...If they are so distracted by the things, then they deserve to be injured/killed.
But thats because I'm a very cynical person anyway...
Considerings its Pakistan, I'm sure many over there actually feel this way.

People lie hudreds of meters of string out along the sidewalks, coat it with glue, then sprinkle powdered glass on it to make it able to cut though other kite's strings.
