voice_tweak
I am having a problem with the voice chat. When I use the voice chat there is a constant buzzing sound in the background which makes it difficult for people to hear what I say.
I think “voice_tweak” is the source of the problem. When I try to configure the microphone in “voice_tweak” there is a little checked box in the bottom that says: Enable +20dB hardware gain (leave checked if unsure). It is checked by default. It seems this is the source of the problem, because when it is checked the buzzing is there. And when it’s not, the sounds perfect. Now, this is what I need your help with: I’m not able to uncheck the box. I uncheck the box and click the ok button, but when I enter “voice_tweak” it is still checked. And the buzzing is still therewhen I’m in the game.
Can some one please help me?

that buzz, is probably feed back, do you use headphones, speakers? how far away is your mic from your speakers?
oh, and if you REALLY wana change it, try poking around in your config.cfg and seeing if you can find a likely var (it will be on probably) and turn it off there
Roo
I know that SBLive comes with a program that alows you to tweak with the mic input (also alowing a +20db gain) if you have 2 things giving you gain that might do some thing (then ahgain, that buzz would probably be a high pitched shriek then)
I have to increase the volume a bit when +20db hardware gain is unchecked and then I sound fine in “voice_tweak”. Isn’t the way I sound in “voice_tweak” approximately the same way I will sound in game?
Where do I turn off the +20db hardware gain in my windows settings? I dint find it, I am using XP. Can you tell me where I can fine it please?
Ooh and I am using an Advance AC97 audio integrated in to my mainboard.
to find the check box dbl click on the spkr in your sys tray, go to file->properties. There should be a scroll list of check boxes. One is mic, make sure it is checked. Then on the main display under the mic column there is advanced, there yah go

When ever you come to the Tech forum give us all the info you think might be relevent, if you give us more then we need, no worries, but if you don't tell us anything we can't do anything. (it is alot esier to fix some ones comp when you are sitting in front of it, but we are denide that luxary )
voiceloopback 1 worked. it made testing much easier.
Changing windows sound settings didn’t work. It didn’t override the “voice_tweak” settings.
Editing config.cfg file didn’t help. (I didn’t find anything there at least)
I can’t think of any thing more that is relevant. I would still like to know if there is any other ways to turn off the +20db hardware gain. I would also be interested to know of other possible reasons for this problem.
