Who's Still Playing Planet Side?

ps. I hate SOE
Personally I beta tested it and learned to hate it. I'm not a fan of SOE, actually I'm an anti-fan but thats another story.

I was just wondering how many of you play planetside? OR how many people do you know play planetside? I would like to know how popular PS still is. When it was beta, sure everyone liked it cause they didn't have to pay a stupid monthly fee, but now, I wouldn't waste my money.

It was a good game, hell, if it wasnt for the monthly fee, i'd be playing now... but the $50 MSRP and 12 bucks a month is just too high for the broke Crabby

Ugh when I was in the beta test and was constantly killed before I would "hack" a base by a team mate who wanted all my experience, I learned to hate the game.

Granted they fixed that, but I knew right then I wanted nothing to do with a bunch of ****. The game itself isn't that good anyways, requires a GIANT of a computer to run to :-\

great concept, pulled off wrong in so many ways its not even funny.

    so many bugs its scary.

so much useless content its rediculous.

so much imbalance it makes the early patch frenzy of Starcraft look like nothing.

customer service, public relations, and quality assurance are all a joke.

the horrible lag means you will deal with "bullets following you around corners" ALL the time.

the constant crashes only frustrate you.

game is the slowest FPS in existance (tons of timesinks)

    pay to play.

    No.

I've heard good things about PS...

The lag is nonexistant, most lag that is present is from your machine. Even if you have a 56K, but you have a good comp, your lag will be very low. A friend of my got 200 ping at a west coast server on a 56K and he has a good comp.

However, I do think PS was rushed too much.

Whenever I think of how many crappy MMORPGs/FPSs we are in for I just keep hoping D&D Online will be one of the few games that will be great, unfortunatly since Bioware is not developing it...Im a bit skeptical When will it end! Oh....September...with HL2...ahh yesss...

With HL2's (hopefully) ultra-moddableness, maybe someone can make a MMOFPS for that.

I refuse to play anything which you have to pay a monthly fee for, on the basis that a game is only good if it has lastability. But having your money leeched out of you to get the whole experience? Anyway, I've heard of how terribly Sony runs EQ, so I have no intention of playing a massively multiplayer ANYTHING by them.

I don't mind paying a monthly fee, but for the love of GOD don't expect me to shell out $250 a year for your game only to spend 2/3rds of that time being a beta tester.

MMORPG makers need to wake up, people are NOT paying $50 + $12/mo for your game, they are paying $250 a YEAR. For ONE game. For that much money not only should your RPG be flawless, but it should be fun, balanced, and constantly have new content or events every MONTH.

I mean really, if you bought a game for $250 would you want something that was buggy, unbalanced, unfun, and lacked key features for several months after release? HELL NO!!

Besides, I find I get more fun out of 5 single player games for $50 then 1 POS MMORPG. BUT, I will cave in and shell out insane ammounts of money to play D&D Online. My dream game

Heh, UO started to crumble because they didn't have enough vents and the GM's were jerks. I solved a quest plot early and couldn't get anybody to listen to me so at a big gathering where this guy who was "giving hints" to the plot was speaking I threw an exploding potion at him. Heh, lagged everyone, but not enough people would listen, the guy speaking was the evil one (the evil lich) and so I imedditely got jailed for the remainder of the story, of course, it was because of the lag. I quit shortly thereafter. The game rewarded the wrong kind of people.

it would be smarter and better if they made it for a consol like ps2 and u could play it online with htat new online gaming,, all of thehorrific, traumatising, scary, lag would be reduced to almost nothing and fps would be faster... but no those silly gooses had to make it for PC's which alot of us cant afford to buy an alienware +upgrades =x those silly..silly.. gooses
  • XzilenXzilen Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11642Members, Constellation
Yea, except it would be better on XBL, but I agree, I can't afford that crap, I was barely able to beta test.
  • XzilenXzilen Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11642Members, Constellation
Ugh, come to think of it, the computer I use now probably couldn't run it.

    1 ghz
    396mb ram
    geforce 2

*Sighs* I hate how games require such massive things to run.

How that? I haven't tried PS yet. I've heard good and bad things about it, and have now arrived to a point where I think "I'll at least have to try it."

I thought it had a lot of good concepts but not exactly there. It was entertaining but not for its long term monthly price. And Im living on a small budget.

I still use the music tracks for whatever though.

Nah, that's not how our economy works. As long as there are enough people who pay for crappy games, the industry will continue to make crappy games. In fact the games will become even worse until they reach a crappiness treshold that makes them unprofitable.

Don't blame the makers, blame the consumers for being ignorant and uncritical about the games they pay for.

I still play planetside, and it is a blast when your entire outfit works together to take over a continent, and your squad is on a voice chat.

The concept is solid, however, the environments are getting a little stale for me. But I plan on staying on till at least HL2 comes out, probably not beyond September. I dig it, but playing it interferes with the development of my own game

So you beta tested it, learned to hate it, but would play it for free? That doesn't make any sense to me. I beta tested it, and really liked it despite the fact my computer just could not handle the game and crashed frequently. That and the fact that I'm not into paying a recurring fee for a game when theres plenty of good ones (ns) that don't have one.

In short, if I had a cutting edge super powerful computer and money was no object, I'd probably be playing. But that isn't the case so...

you are one lucky guy if it ran good on your box. i play PS all the time the only thing that i really hate is the intense slow down i get, and my machine it way over the specs it needs.

    athlon xp1800+
    512DDR
    Geforce 4 ti4400 128ram
win 98SE with all updated drivers.

i have to run it at MINIMUM graphic and sound settings(apart from weather effects there sweet). and even that when im in battle it chuggs like a POS. but i will still play it never the less as i like it in small battles. (20 people both sides).

Could that be because of your connection? My guess is that large battles eat bandwidth. If that ain't it, I'd consult some tweaking guides (the PS forums must have 'em), you really should get better performance than that.
It seems that some people are more tolerant of slowdown than others though. I can play a game at anything above 20 fps, while some people consider 50 or 60 fps to be awful.
