'With its excellent campaign, elegantly designed factions, and simple to learn but deep, strategic gameplay, Starcraft is the defining game of its genre. It is the standard by which all real-time strategy games are judged. '

    It deserved it, allthough imo half-life would be a real close second.

    I maintain that the best game of all time was Deus Ex, but yeah, SC deserves everything it gets, too.

    Homeworld is a far better RTS game than SC will ever be.

    [Sarcasm] no that's why it got the best game ever award [/sarcasm]

    yea it's very good, however the graphics is a little outdated, but it has good gameplay/campaigns, and it has 3 balanced factions 0_o...

    V-man yea Homeworld is good, but SC beats it on the campaign(never played much of it, so i guess i'm not really objective), and Starcraft got it's 3 balanced Factions, and i'd guess there's more strategies in SC...Homeworld is pretty much. tech up, send large fleet <--- correct me if wrong...

    just buckle down and BUY it. notice the lack of quotes. if you"buy" it, you won't be able to play on Bnet, multiplayer. which is where it can get interesting.

    SC is a must for any comm, imho.

    HW r0x SC? hm, interesting. still playing through HW.

    HW2 is pretty awesome though

    HW might have been innovative, 3d, and a good game in its own right, but SC beats it hands down in the areas of campaigns, strategy, diversity, and balance, and gets kudos for being part of the inspiration for NS.

    Homeworld's not that hot. It rocks the first time you play it through. The second time is a little dull, then every time after that it's just tedious.

    Besides, anyone with half a brain knows Elite is the best game ever. Maybe followed by Monkey Island and Tie Fighter.

    This man speaks the truth, Elite pwns all, well, almost, its sequels are better, but he got it right other than that.

    The only bad thing about homeworld (Not cataclysm) is that the action gets VERY tedious at times. 3d RTSes get compilcated because you can attack from like an infinite number of angles. But the story line was good, just the gameplay was slow and all the ships had the same voice :/

    Homeworld was AWESOME but can't touch the strategic depth and hard-counter system of starcraft.

    I didn't think Deus ex really had sufficient AI to be the best game ever. The sequel will probably fix this, but it never seemed like the enemies reacted realistically enough to really be immersive. It gets some MAJOR kudos though for being the first action game to allow the player to express himself morally within it. I will never forget playing the first level like any other FPS only to be heavily chastised and reprimanded by the guy at the arms depot for my obscene bodycount. That moment entirely changed the way I thought about how a game should be.

    My personal pick for best game ever is still Planescape: Torment.

    I loved Deus Ex, don't get me wrong, but I played it long long after it came out. When games were much harder. As far as I know, DX was designed to be played either like Doom (just blast the crap out of everyone) OR as a sneak-past everyone. I get the impression it was totally unprepered for the sneak-around-killing-people,-spec-ops-style, which I employed and found ridiculously easy.

    Hm... maybe I should play Starcraft. I haven't so much as seen it being played. All I know about it is that it's made by Blizzard, has Zerg, Protoss and Terrans (whatever the hell they may be) and is a sci-fi themed RTS. I made a point of not getting it when it came out because I'm a Total Annihilation fan, and there was kind of a holy war between the TA fanatics and the SC fanatics at the time.

    Terrans = humans...
    Zerg = overmind cliche aliens..
    Protoss = highly advanced, probably sophisticated too, alien race.

    Half-Life still reigns supreme in my mind, as well as most of the rest of the gaming community's. It got the Best PC Game Ever™ Award from PC Gamer. Cool, no?

    I suggest you play Jedi Knight, which had a morality based system years before DX was even in development, it was a lot more superficial, but it was the deciding factor in the side of the force you choose, which had a huge effect on gameplay, JK also has the best level design in any game, ever, period.

    Agreed.

    Well.... Kingdoms takes quite a bit of getting used to. When I first played it I was like "er... is this a joke? Has some guy just made a crappy mod of some game and released it as TA:K?" considering the glowing reviews it recieved. The sound was all wierd, for one thing. And the campaign mode took a lot of getting used to as well (changing sides every mission? What were they on?!). But.... when you get used to it it's tolerable.
