Are there mission-infos?

I only want to know if the players have some sort of "briefing" at the beginning of a map and if so what sort of information will be shown (a story, a simple objective-list). I know that many mappers have written real creative background-stories and I hope a bit of these afford will make it into the game...

that r the things mappers should add themselfs
i think the briefings are just like the briefings from CS and other games.

Yes, mappers can add a intro-text to their map, but if they want to write a longer, formatted text the mod must support the use of txt-files and that isn't a standart hl-feature although i think it's easy to code.

it is possible to add a small cinematic event.

This is something we'll surely do in the future, but probably not for v1.0.  Hooking each map into the NS universe via in-game stories is a great idea and I'd love to see it.  The players that want to read the stories can (esp. during a break while in the ready room) and those that aren't interested needen't bother.

yes but the problome is that when a newb comes hes probly not gonna want to stop and read the stories (he will but wont have time) cuz all the other players are rushing away so i think we need a mapping stories forum where stories of maps go and stay there...i dont know  :|

noo, neither of us wants to see a blank transparent white tab with some text and a scrolling bar. This is Natural Selection, you should change that to something more artistic

Imperial Fist:  We have a Fan Fiction Forum.

Biobrain:  No.  Neither.  Or have you never heard of the concept of a readyroom?

There should be a pause in the beggining of each round. Like... hmm

ppl get in the server, to a ready room, but can't leave while the first 15 seconds of map have passed! So that everybody can start the game at the same time! ppl with Stupid P2 with 128mb ram should begin at the same time than the ones with P4 and 1024mb ram (damn huge loading times...)

btw, imperialfist, nice atempt to post in English <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

The problem with those messages you get at the start of other half life mods is that no-one reads them.

Maybe an in-game bind to display a simple screen with the same message you get at the start of the map would be a good idea?

Or perhaps in the ready room there is a little moniter that if you USE, you get a screen that has the story. It's possible, other mods have done that.

or a scrolling text (ala star wars) holographically projected on the readyroom wall.
  • RamsesRamses Join Date: 2002-05-21 Member: 642Members
dragz: Well, I know that many people doesn't read those texts but there are quite a few (including me) that really like to know what's going on and why risking my (virtual) life. Although your idea of a toggleable screen is exactly what I mean. You can't force the players to read something. I think the way it's done in CS and DOD is good. You have a message at the beginning of each level. You can skip this message or read it. Also you still have a "Show mission-briefing" button that shows you the message when you want to read it instead of only at the beginning.
Freemantle and Kidzelda: I think your ideas are great but they seemed a bit hard to code for me. Sure, other mods have them but you can tell the CS-Developers "Hey, why not make a particle-system, i know a mod which has something like that!" and it's still hard to code and perhaps it isn't worse that.
