Spawning Does What!?

<div class="IPBDescription">you "learn" something new everyday</div> Now I've come to consider myself a half-way decent comm. I've been doing it since 1.03 and I win maybe 75% of the games that I seriously use tried and true tactics (ala jp's, two hive lock downs, welder trains, etc), it's when I try to innovate and push new ideas that losses come.
So during one such excursion one of the marines told me to stop sending wave after wave of marines into the alien insisting it was a waste of resources. I told him that spawning cost us nothing and he insisted that it was costing us 1 res per respawn. I thought perhaps even I could learn something and waited anxiously for the next person to spawn... two people spawned, the res wasn't affected at all. I raise the question to the server in general and even the admins seem confused as one says it cost res and the other was sure it didn't.
So which is it? Did we just stumble across confused people tonight, or have some of us been confused ourselves this whole time.

I remember flipping out about my guys dying in scrims and matches, so I assumed it carried over to regular play.

Which wasn't that good considering their idea of a good commander was one who covered marine start in turrets and didn't "waste res" holding atmos. That was the guys problem, he thought that we were gonna lose more res than gain in using 2 - 3 marines to hold atmos-feed. Sigh...
...suppose there hasn't been "think of something witty that WWJD stands for" contest in a while, or possibly ever.
Still looking for the quote, but I'm pretty sure it never cost res to spawn, not even in turney mode.
that being said, a couple of nights ago on CoFR, i was comm and when a guy spawnd, my res dropped 1
could it be that there is left over code that was not removed? a bug?
There are serverside SV_... variables that can set respawn costs for both teams per player. Default is 0.
