Spawning Does What!?

<div class="IPBDescription">you "learn" something new everyday</div> Now I've come to consider myself a half-way decent comm. I've been doing it since 1.03 and I win maybe 75% of the games that I seriously use tried and true tactics (ala jp's, two hive lock downs, welder trains, etc), it's when I try to innovate and push new ideas that losses come.

So during one such excursion one of the marines told me to stop sending wave after wave of marines into the alien insisting it was a waste of resources. I told him that spawning cost us nothing and he insisted that it was costing us 1 res per respawn. I thought perhaps even I could learn something and waited anxiously for the next person to spawn... two people spawned, the res wasn't affected at all. I raise the question to the server in general and even the admins seem confused as one says it cost res and the other was sure it didn't.

So which is it? Did we just stumble across confused people tonight, or have some of us been confused ourselves this whole time.

    This is only in tournament mode. In standard play there is no cost.

    I remember flipping out about my guys dying in scrims and matches, so I assumed it carried over to regular play.

    It wouldn't have been so bad Kavasa except for the fact that he tried to rally the team in ejection of me (and the teams being stacked as usual). = /

    Which wasn't that good considering their idea of a good commander was one who covered marine start in turrets and didn't "waste res" holding atmos. That was the guys problem, he thought that we were gonna lose more res than gain in using 2 - 3 marines to hold atmos-feed. Sigh...


    ...suppose there hasn't been "think of something witty that WWJD stands for" contest in a while, or possibly ever.

    Respawn costs res in tour mode? Hm...didn't know. But respawning is free in pub games (otherwise it's too large of a drain on rp and griefers can have a field day).

    Still looking for the quote, but I'm pretty sure it never cost res to spawn, not even in turney mode.

    Flayra himself has said that it does not cost anything to spwan, they had it in at one point, but it did not work out,

    that being said, a couple of nights ago on CoFR, i was comm and when a guy spawnd, my res dropped 1

    could it be that there is left over code that was not removed? a bug?

    Thats kind of a legend.
    There are serverside SV_... variables that can set respawn costs for both teams per player. Default is 0.

    I've noticed at the very beginning(when marines come in without an IP, and aliens start with 10 res) of any game, that it takes off 1 resource for each person who joins the marines.     Whenever a marine spawns for the first time, be it through an IP or at the beginning of the game, it costs 1 resource. After that, it's free. And yes, Flayra has stated in the past that spawning does not cost resources, not even in tourny mode.

    I have noticed the same thing as Catpoker. A player spawns and my resource count goes down by 1.
