Do you ever feel patriotic and brave when your marine base is in a last stand, surrounded by attacking onos, fades, and a swarm of skulks, with everyone else firing their guns widely?

Make it dramatic and climatic.

But yeah, I know the feeling. A base full of poorly equppied marines against 3 hive aliens... bile bombs. onos, and spores all around. Framerate at a dismal 12 fps. its Magic.

Best last stand, In nancy, all standing in a line shooting down the Ramp, turrets backing you up as an endless stream of skulks charge you.

Then some one screams "ONOS" and every one falls Back a Place into the Cockpit itself, the Onos charging in and often forgeting to duck and get to you.

So basicly you have the Chair backs as cover and stupid onos just looking at you....But thats as far back as you can fall really (without bugs)

Oh yes. Stuck in a corner with 10 turrets, 1 comm, 3 HA with HMG, 1 welder, and an entire team of onos waiting outside. It doesn't get any better than that.

Ok this is my patriotic last stand as an alien.

Me as a lerk with carapace and adren. I have two movements and three defense chambers and no hives in the Port side hive of ns_maru_b2.

I told the marines that one JPer could come at a time and challenge me toa 1vs1 air to air combat against me.

First marine came in, HMG/JP, and before he started opening fire i had him with lerk bite.

The second marine came with Shotgun/JP and he tried attacking my buildings instead of me so i took him out.

The third marine came in with just an HMG and no JP. I dove in from behind him and bit him to death.

The fourth marine came in with HMG/JP and we flew around for a while but i couldnt get a bite to strike home. Then he started flying backwards in a strait line against a the outside wall and i was flying forwards against the inside wall. I curved around the front end of the room and hit him in the back with one hit, killing him in midair.

Next, two marines came in at once. Instead of going against me they attacked my buildings. I had one marine down to red health when they finally got me.

Hey all,

I'm relatively new to NS (darn it, I had to find it <i>before</i> my exams were over, didn't I?) so I can't actually remember the name of the map, or even the server I was playing on. Anyway, we (the marines) had holed ourselves up in the last hive, and basically refused to die for at least an hour.

Yep, for over an hour it was basically Respawn (I think we had about 3 spawn points in that room), start shooting, get killed, rinse and repeat. Those that survived, quickly grab up a welder, fix everything again.

We simply respawned too quickly for them to ever come in and wipe us out. It was getting to the point where the aliens are wondering whether we're gonna need to relieve bodily functions sometime, it was going for that long. Votes to change the map or finish the game were slapped down multiple times by us stubborn guys <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

It was finally resolved when the entire alien team rather conspicuously charged in as Onos' (Oni?). Ah geez, I wish I could remember it better, it sounds really bland when I tell it like this.

It would be neat with a retreat option, hold base for 10 more minutes and you'll be teleported out again.. Of course, victory would still go to the aliens, but the marines would have won a small victory.
Of course, game conceding have been rejected as an NS feature. hasn't it?

Marine last stands are great fun, especially when a few of you escape the base and slip behind enemy lines...and are picked off, one by one. Real atmospheric. (:

Alien last stands suck, and is one of the reasons why I prefer playing the 'rines. You just run out and get gunned down, over and over, until they stop faffing around and finish the job. Boring.

I'm not sure why a couple of you feel "patriotic" in this situtaion though, unless getting gutted like dogs is something your country does often. :/

i guess "patriotic" doesnt aply here because its the TSA/Frontiersmen (a multinational force of humans) versus the Kharaa (another lifeform) and not nation a versus nation b - thus the name natural selection

I remember one time I went rambo at the start and didn't help my team build. Yeah, I know, bad boy, but I can't be a good boy all the time. Its a GAME not a JOB!! So anyways it was on tanith and I was making my way to waste management when all the sudden I hear my whole team cussing their brains out. Then everybody's saying my name and the commander speaks to me.

"Relsan, you and I are the only ones left alive and I wont be for long. I put a CC in waste. Get your a$$ over there and build it now!"

Well I figured now was as best a time as any to start following orders so I continued on my way to waste. Didn't see the CC at first because the com put it up the ladder. Started building while keeping eye on the entrances. One skulk came while I was building but I saw him first and killed him before he got close.

Finished the CC, got in the chair and plopped down an IP. My dead teammates started taking bets. "He's not going to make it" "He's close" "This could happen" "Nah they know where he is now" "Its going to be the marine start all over again" "Shut up guys hes almost done"

I get out the chair and start building the ip. I'm so excited about building the ip that I totally miss a skulk coming up the ladder. I get some shots in but I forgot to reload from last time "Game over" "He's dead" I take out my knife and get two lucky stabs. Skulk is dead and he had no backup "OMg!!*" "hax" "lol" Total morale boost.

I keep building and a friendly marine pops out. I go back in the CC and plop down an rt, tf and then get out and head down to one of the entrances to stand guard. I see a rush of skulks come through the other entrance. I kill one before I'm overran and eaten. As the screen goes black I hear a bunch of spawns and barking skulks but nobody is talking anymore.

By the time I get back we have a full base locked down with mines and turrets and a squad of guys heading for cargo. We continued on to crush the aliens that round.

I'm not going to say I performed perfectly in that situation and the only reason we survived was because the aliens were kinda noobish. But how did it feel to be the only guy left and actually pull out the win? Total rush! One of the best game experiences I've ever had!

I love last stands, not when the marine start/hive is pinned down with enemy structures and just getting pwned.
When an onos or two are rampaging and backup is lacking its insanely good fun trying to save your base.
There should be a custom heroic music when the game decides your base is getting pwned <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

lol usually when i get a lucky break like that i get a few guys into the game and then we all die again :S

but muh...

last stands at the end of a great game are the best.. your sort or weary of playing but it is like an ongoing comp you cant give in the the kharra ! you have fought them for over an hour and a half!
