Never Underestimate The Skulk Rush

playing Eclipse, marines had a hive lockdown and a huge technological advantage, everything was researched but Heavy armor, which they ended up getting later as well. We has simply put up a good first at computer core from a failed attempt at putting a second hive up, and we kept them occupied there. Just like the rest of the map the proceeded to turret it up and put down a phase gate. Instead of just giving up we threw all our skulks at marine start... and our gorge. Offensive towers got up and we just simply overwhelmed them, even though they were all in the phase gate in seconds. we blew the place to bits. Of course that wasn't the end of the game, they had maintenance and computer core, but we stuck together for the remainder of the game and learned quickly that even with phase gates, heavy armor suits take a LONG time to get around, and used our mobility to clear the map and starve them of resources.

And every bit of it done with skulks, a gorge and occasionally a lerk.

Undoubtedly the best game I have played in NS. just remember even when you're out teched a good rush with the most simple evolution the Kharaa get can be enough to win the game.

    Yeah, it's too bad that such coordination rarely happens in pubs, though . When will people learn that teamplay works?

    something I've really started to notice lately is that the "rambo" problem is even WORSE on alien teams than marine teams! I have been on alien teams with players who are very good, organized, teamwork oriented marines, and we just can't seem to get organized. We'll have 3 people saying "ok we need to hit this together" while at the same time those 3 people are off on their own or with 1 other skulk doing something else. Sometimes it's just bizarre how difficult it is to organize an alien team.

    More to the point, don't underestimate exploiting weak spots (however many skulks you have attacking). In most RTSs, if the enemy are winning and you simply avoid them and attack their heart you'll either force them to pull back or kill them. This applies to every RTS I've ever played, and that includes NS.

    As it's been said before in this forum, I find that simply jumping on the mic and taking control will someitmes help when you're trying to pull a team together. Nothing says get up off your **** like some guy yelling at you over voice comm. But then again, you have to be playing on a team full of people that want to win, and that's half the battle, isn't it?

    It's not the power of a rush, it's the power of teamplay

    teamplay = fun + winning

    As for weak spots, unless there is a turretfarm the whole marine base is a weak spot

    I don't think that the rambo problem is that bad for aliens sure your bound to have people alone as aliens, but I've found that most the people on the aliens use the hive sight fairly well, and it really does seem that if one alien is getting attacked your almost guanteed to be attacked by other aliens very soon.

    Also, ive found that it really doesn't take too much organisation to get s small rush happening, not everyone is entirely dumb, you DO see teamwork (even if it is a rare sight for most people). Just look for the nearest alien on your hive sight then soon enough others with just as much common sense will follow you, then suddenly you'll have your entire team following you eventually (although i have to admit an ENTIRE team following is very rare, but having a group or 3 or 4 happens to me all the time)

    Yes this has been proven on my server. I own the server and my team still refuses to listen to me being that I dont have a mic. My friend rolls in with his mic and it seems to catch their attention.

    The thing is, it's good to have marine rambos. They will in every case keep the 1-hive aliens at bay while you have 1 marine to build the stuff you need. This is completely wrong, but it's the way it is...
