Yep, It's a Real Product
Samsung nabbed a nifty product endorsement, and is actually selling the SPH-N270 cell phone used by the rebels in The Animatrix, The Matrix: Reloaded, and The Matrix: Revolutions. In addition to looking so damn cool, it's also a fully functional, color display-equipped digital phone. Check it out.

Nah. It looks like a cheesy rip off. I'd rather go for a phone sold on its features and quality, not its likeness to a movie prop.

Then why not they just sue Samsung? I'm sure they've bought the rights and if anything it's offical.

It's not a cheesy ripoff. Not only do they have the rights to the phone in the film, but they also have a sweepstakes and seperate, flash-based site just for the phone. Plus it's just so darn cool.

What you say? Playmates bought the rights to the Star Trek toy line, yet they couldn't ever get it looking right. What's your point? The fact remains, it looks similar to the phone in the Matrix, but its not exact. Therefore, it looks like a cheesy rip off of the actual phone in the Matrix. Why dis so hard to undastand?

Because the word you're looking for is cheap imitation.

It's not a ripoff or an imitation. If you would actually look at some of the material, you would notice that Samsung was hired to design the phone for the movie. So if anything, the movie is ripping off Samsung.

Companies do the same thing for the Bond movies; instead of just coming up with some absurd contraption, many of the gadgets used by Bond are desgined and created as functional devices.

    Nubcaek.

IMO, imitation means a copy of something trying to be something else.

Rip off meaning a copy of something being like something else yet not saying that it is.

Good grief people, get off my back! I think that this phone is exploiting the fandom of the Matrix. I think it is ripping off people by enticing them to buy a phone that has only one merit: it looks like a movie prop. Man, you guys get into semantics waaay to easily. Need to take a valium or something.

I don't like the keys, they look too cheesy, but if the phone has some wheight to it, there is a potential for high Chick Magnet Factor. My friend works at a cell phone place, so hopefully he can get one of these babies so I can check it out

dont u think samsung has given away prototype concepts for the movie like nokia in the 1rst one?
bringing that handy into the movie was the best promotion they could get... lol.. maybe samsung have paid for that... the one in the movie was a fuctional design concept prototype, the actual handy you could buy is the final product with all improovements... it would be way to expensive to develop a high techy functional handy just for a movie... samsung pays half of the price of the matrix production would cost, only to get a functional prototype... i think thats a bit much for a movie company only to build such a little detail for their movie
the nokia handy in the first part was also only a prototype... the final version looked just a lil bit different.. and most ppls buyed it because they have seen it in the movie

    from the samsung site:

Behold the Samsung SPH-N270, the mobile phone which was specially produced as the messenger for heroes & heroines that need to cross over time and space in movie ?MATRIX; RELOADED?. It has a futuristic pop up design fully outfitted with the spirit of a three-dimensional world. Another masterpiece made by Samsung. SPH-N270, The Matrix Phone is now open to you!

and yeah, thats buisness strategy.. all for the money.. samsung sells their handy with the matrix license and a stupid matrix tv commercial..and the matrix doods gettin a unique, never seen before handy for their movie... it even got a matrix screensaver build in
