Animatrix
<div class="IPBDescription">Worth to Buy?</div> I have seen the four episodes that have been given out for free on the animatrix website but are the other episodes really any good. I know some that pertain to Matrix Reloaded so maybe a couple but other then that is it worth to purchuse? <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->

A friend of mine bought Animatrix the other day, and we all sat around and watched the shorts. They were good, but they weren't really something we'd watch more than once or twice.
Of course, if you're the type of person who has to collect everything, then go for it. That's actually why my friend bought it - he's an insanely impulsive collector, and has the bank account to support the habit. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
But to you question “is it worth buying” I agrees with sycophant <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> they were good, but they weren't really something we'd watch more than once or twice. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
But never know you might watch them again fortunately it comes down to personal taste
Save for Matriculated (I plain just don't like it or the director Peter Chung) each film oozes the style and essence of their respective directors. While something such as Kid's Story uses a less traditional animation approach it is also hard to fault it as the animation is quite fluid and a joy to watch (Spot the Cowboy Bebop easter egg if you can kiddies!)
Blah, now I'm just rambling.
Animatrix. Go. Get. Now. DVD. GOooooooooooooooood.
i liked the animations (esp the detective one and the running one (dunno why.. i just liked it)), but it wouldnt be something i'd buy. fun to watch once, and maybe twice to pick everything up, but that's it.
YOU DARE MOCK BEYOND AND FINAL FLIGHT?!
!!!!!
;_;
Ex. They show the members of all the ships crews meeting etc. All three make a nice touch in terms of storyline.
In the animatrix I like how they explain things such as Operation Dark Storm or whatever it was that scortches the sky and the origon of that kid that wants to carry Neos bags in the 2nd movie.
IMO it was "ok." definitely not worth buying but worth watching once.
Final Flight IMO was the best... saw it when i saw Dreamcatcher in theaters.
The others suck though. Inf will just have to cry about it. :P
Final Flight, while looking good, was probably my least favorite of all the nine. Partly as it was the least fluid of all the shorts. It was in there primarily for T&A factor, and told very little... the outcome was expected, and the whole thing could have been simply synopsized in three sentences, without losing any of the 'cool' factor.
Second Renaissance 1 & 2 were backstory. Interesting, but somewhat predictable. A good chunk of the symbology used really stuck out and left it coming off as preachy.
Kid's Story... well, though I hated this one at first, it grows on you. The kid's whiny, and in general acts like all the 'neo_667' wannabe-cool morons running around online thanks to AOL. Still don't know why I started to like it, beyond that of all of the shorts it probably has the most unique animation, which works very well with the motion used.
Program. Well, everyone's seen Program. It was cool the first time, but it got old. It's a long fight sequence, with no real point. Wow. Explosions and stuff. Skip this track if you watch the DVD more than five times, or you'll be yawning.
World Record. A decent idea, and it handles the exposition of the story decently. Not much more to be said about it, though it does consistently give me a rise at the end.
Beyond. Fun, lighthearted, and really depressing toward the end. PACKED with symbolism, but manages to hold it without falling into preaching. I usually skip it, or only watch the first part.
A Detective Story. Film noir meets sci-fi. I enjoy film noir, especially detective flicks, so this was one of my top-rated. The bit just before the end was a little over the top for the style being leant toward, but it closes nicely in classic fashion.
Matriculated. It's a watch-once for me, with the flavor of a villanelle. Aeon Flux was brought to mind, but without the best parts of Flux. And though it had a definite ending, I both like and hate that they don't really explain what happened, just show the coda and fade to black.
My copy's already started gathering dust on my shelf. :b
The problem with shortfilms such as the ones shown in the Animatrix is that they only go for around 10 minutes.
What normally happens in Anime is you'll get an episode (Or several) which will introduce the main characters, their backgrounds and a few problems, etc. For example, in a proper series you may get a scene in episode 1 where someone asks the character their name and then we are given a proper introduction, but because you have only 10 minutes in which to present the entire feature a lot of this information is derived from what you are able to pick up as you are watching.
So in the end it's really up to you. As an anime addict this was a no-brainer purchase for me as it featured several high class directors, but for the more casual viewer who doesn't know his shoujo from his shounen, the obvious 'Try before you buy' strategy is always good.
Talesin: The director of Matriculated was Peter Chung whom is the creator of Aeon Flux. He made several bad umm.... 'career' choices that I didn't agree with and I loathe his works now =/
