qwertz sucks
Zeah. So I have a german kezboard. Horraz. I don't know what smacktard had the idea, but a long time ago somebodz decided that on german kezboards, we should switch the z and y kezs. So instead of a qwerty kezboard, I have a qwertz kezboard, with the letter next to x being y. Now this wouldn't be so bad if I just wrote in english and german, but I also write danish. And in danish we have the three letters æøå, which on a danish kezboard are placed where the letters öäü are on a german kezboard. In order to write the danish letters I have to switch mz kezboard lazout to danish, which in turn switches the z and y kezs (as the danish kezboard has the qwerty lazout). See the problem? Makes for lots of amusing spelling errors where I substitute y for z and vice versa. Yebra. Yanz. Zou. Mz. Trz. Bunnzhopping. Anzwhere. Annozing. Maye. Muyyle. Fiyyz. The hate. THE HATE.

The problem is that everz german compzdealer assumes that people WANT german kezboards. I have zet to see anzthing else in the stores. But thank zou anzwaz.
Whoa, I have zet to see one of those. The frenchz that was visiting the danish school where I was stazing must have felt in heaven there... Useful kezboards at the computers!
However, for games like HL, it gets re-translated back into "american", so your QWERTZ keyboard is a pseudo QWERTY. That gets really confusing for a little bit, especially if you're a German. I never really had a problem with the keyboard, just took some practice getting used to, like all keyboard layouts.

why don't you just either order a new one using EDBpriser or just drive up here to buy one which may be a bit drastic, but if it really annoys you....i don't know if the firms from edbpriser delivers to germany though.

Well, zou get used to it. The problem is that some games (Jedi Knight 2 comes to mind) are smart enough to check zour kezboard lazout, so in those games zou have the german kezboard, meaning that zou'll have to rebind the z and y kezs. So everz time zou get a new game zou'll have to figure out which kind of kezboard THAT game uses. The rage. The hate. The burning pain. Thank GOD I'm going back to Denmark in a few months. Anzone know whether thez got anz good servers there?
As for you lolfighter, you should be rebinding your keys for every game you play regardless of your keyboard type, so it doesn't really matter, you could try changing it to a US 101 in Control Panel -> Keyboard -> Language if you can't stand it.

yes we use accents, hyphens and apostrophes much more than numbers (they love writing out the numbers over here). In fact, pressing shift doesn't bother me at all anymore. I do it nearly mechanically. The PTs can possibly tell you a lot about my famous battlecry "Thez are coming!". It hurts, believe me.
First thing I'll do when I finally get the money together is importing a complete PC. OS, keyboard, everything in anglo-american standards. It's the easiest way of avoiding conflicts, not to mention that the person translating Windows deserves some things I may not say here.

Zaz! A fellow sufferer! /me is not alone!
Hehe.. Thez are coming. *snicker*
I taught myself Dvorak in about a month, and have never gone back. Since I use other keyboards as well, I'm actually "bikeyboardal" - I can type equally well in either Dvorak or QWERTY, with only minor lapses between the two.
The Dvorak layout is:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 [ ]
' , . P Y F G C R L / =
A O E U I D H T N S -
; Q J K X B M W V Z
Compared to QWERTY:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - =
Q W E R T Y U I O P [ ]
A S D F G H J K L ; '
Z X C V B N M , . /
Makes *so* much more sense.
I use a QWERTY keyboard; while I was learning, I took a sharpie marker and wrote all of the Dvorak letters onto the keys. By the time the oil from my fingers had rubbed it off, I could touch-type.
My recommendation to anyone learning a new layout (e.g. Dvorak): NO MATTER WHAT, DO NOT SWITCH BACK TO YOUR OLD BOARD. It slows down your typing like nobody's business, it's killer in IRC, but the more you switch back, the longer it'll take you to internalize the new board.
