What Is Our Opinion On The Electrified Tf?

well, what is it :) ?
Lo,

Electridfied Tf's

We used to build a tf, because it gave us some lovely and nasty turrets, gatling ammoslurping, greasy lethal turrets.
As far as I read in the beta forum, turrets are very weak atm, and TF's are going to be used for elecrtricity fields only.

Well, point to this thread is:

1. What do you actually think of the electricity upgrade. I mean setting a delicate expensive piece of equipment under high voltage. How do you see this fit into the NS universe?

2. Do you think the electricity upgrades will change the gameplay, create more defensive play.

In my opinion, it's a cool idea, and no I haven't played with it, but still, I think it's going to harm the gameplay in some way. It will change alot, and it might not all be for the best.

So what is your opinion?

Cheers

The only problem I can see is with electrified TF's being used as vent blocks.

I mean, as long as you send a marine around with a welder, you can effectively block off some hives altogether.

I think ETFs may be very nice for the marines... Now a small group of marines will be able to fortify a location easier.

But the best thing is for RTs: In 1.04 you have to equip a marine with mines if you want a RT to last more than 30 seconds.

Well, what I can see from the beta threads, they aren't buidling turrets anymore, just upgrade the tf's to ETF's.

As for the RT's I agree, a ressource gathering structure, distant, lonely, with 20.000 volts on it.
I can see that fit, but let's say a TF is in base for defense, with alot of rines running past it.
I mean I don't know, there is something about it that bugs me...

Thy should make the turrets in NS like the Gattling Cannons in C&C Yuri's Revenge. The longer they shot, the faster their barrels spun, and the better their rate of fire. That would certainly help turrets out.

If any pts or vets read this, could you try testing what happens if you put turrets right next to the tf. Does the elctrical zap reach far enough to hurt anyone who attacks the turrets? Because if it does an elec tf with a few turrets on each side would pwn until bilebombs...

Yeah, the E-TF has a decent enough range that you can build a smallish sized base in it's electric radius. It's become the staple 3rd thing that we build in base (after ip/armory). It's got more than enough range to cover a few turrets next to it. Quite handy for hive denieing.

[edit: I've seen a few turrets in scrims. Not many, but I do see them. They mostly come after the marines are getting hammered by hive 2 aliens, it seems.]

In that case, why don't turets get spammed inside the elec radius? Are they too weak to be worth it? If they are, they probably need a cost decrease or an all-round power increase.

Turrets are just tin foil to bilebomb. If you let the aliens get hive 2, you're gonna lose them. It's been more of our habit to be on the offense. Try to deny the 2nd hive, or atleast stall it. Then, once we have some upgraded weapons, Jp or HA, that sort of thing, then we just go in and clean out the hives, which mostly likely are still building if we did our job right. It just seems more productive to put more resources into weaponery/upgrades/etc. than to fortify our base. A good offense is a good defense, and all that sort of thing.

I think it's a more useful defense than a tf with a blind spot. I dont know the costs but I would guess its cheaper to have an elec tf in 1.1 than put 3-4 turrets around it in 1.04. It also makes them more useful, rather than building them in just defensive postions you could put them at startegic spots now, basically an answer to infestation of the aliens. You can now as marines take over an entire map much cheaper. In 1.04 a single skulk (w/cara)can take down aturret then proceed to take down the tf from the blind spot unless you spend a lot of res on having 2 turrets per side.
Now the only problem with elec tf's and rt's I've heard of is their ability to attack buildings. But hopefully that will be taken care of.

I'm curious about PT's and Vet's opinions on ETFs damaging through floors and damaging structures. It seems obvious that the through floors thing is a bug but it also seems that on pubs all it will take is 2-3 ETFs in each empty hive to become the new 2 hive lockdown.

From some of the things I've heard you don't even need the tfs - in some hive locs with the res node near the hive, you can just elec the res tower - the instant a hive is put up the node destroys it.

It's not instant, and alot of the hives don't do this. Like Fusion (if I remember correctly) is the only hive on ns_tanith, that zaps hive when the marines have an electric rt.

Also, just building a bunch of tf's under the hive isn't gonna make it impossible to take. It'll cost a TON of res, and you will be vunerable while building them. While you're trying to get the neccisary equipment to take out an alien hive the Aliens will be gettin the upper evolutions, which, with gorge backing can take out the tf's. Then they get a hive, and you're facing some pretty stiff competition for existence.

It'll happen I'm sure, but, like a 1.04 gorge rush, it's a gamble that doesn't always pay off.

Personally I think electrified TFs are a pretty cool concept. When I first started playing NS, one of my first memories was joining a marine team and being asked to build a turret factory. I was like, 'A turret ... factory? That's one of the dumbest names I've ever heard!' The building itself is pretty ugly too.

Now that they're electrified, it seems to me like they're more like a power source, powering nearby turrets with their fields of energy -- sort of like pylons in starcraft. Then, it's a natural evolution to jump to a concept where the fields of energy are so strong that they can electrify anything close enough to them.

What would be *really* cool, then, would be if its model and name were changed to something to represent the aforementioned role. Model could be one of many things -- a tesla coil, mad scientist 'rabbit ears', even one of those glass globes you see in science museums (you know, with the lightning shooting out of the node in the middle, and it arcs toward your fingers if you touch the globe). Then change the name from something mundane like 'turret factory' to something that makes more sense in the context (it's not a factory, it doesn't do any manufacturing -- only fights off the bacterium). I can't think of anything I like at the moment.

This is just idle tomfoolery and daydreaming on my part, heh, but I'm sure a model and name could be chosen that would fit the current vision as Flayra has it.

I dont think all u alien lovers should worry...Always remember...Defense only delays your defeat....So now instead of attacking the marine base we will have to protect the hives n hunt the lonely marines ...

I have no opinion. A nice concept it is, but saying something like "it's going to harm the gameplay" while your Status is merly a "Member" is beyond silly. You, nor I, know what it will be like -- hence why I think we should not form opinions on something we know nothing about.

Yeah well you muppet, it IS the general discussion forum, and if you don't like it, then don't reply you silly boy

Im am merely asking otehr people for their opinion, on this matter, to gain more insights on this subject.

    So there, you muppet

    Beh.

I love to munch down those Turret Factories, it's the best feeling when you noticed that about 10 turrets and 3 sieges just shut down in front of ya. Munchy munchy, and the marine minibase is gone.

I think it will balance the game allright, but I'm still worried. Hopefully siege-bases in small rooms won't become impossible to destroy with skulks.

    Yea. That's it.

    Shotguns rock.

Then discuss all you want. I cannot stand when poeple form ideas, and judge the game, based off a few posts in the beta infromation forum(IE - omg level one fade? I quit. or This will really harm the gameplay... ) . That's what you did - that's what I was saying you should not do. Have opinions, they're fine, I just cant stand threads saying "X will be unbalanced" when have not even seen one ingame.

I'm saying I THINK it will be unbalanced you muppet. And I'd like to hear other ppl's opinions on the matter.

DDG, you're even worse than me.

Now butt out, because I don't want you in this thread
