My Band - Mr. Miyagi

Please don't kill my bandwidth. ;)
I didn't know if I'd mention this here or not, but I've decided I will... Over the last 5 months I've been spending a lot of my time drumming for a new band in the Lincoln, NE area. We're called "Mr. Miyagi" and we play a hard to describe variety of punk. I say hard to describe since our guitar player's voice can be compared to a more pop-punk style and our bass player's voice has been compared to Lars Frederikson and the singer of the Dropkick Murphys. Anyway, if you want to take a listen to a couple REALLY CRAPPY live recordings of us, check out our site at http://www.mrmiyagiband.com/ . We've got 2 mp3s from a show we played last week in my home town of Beatrice, NE (I wrote Goodbye, Beatrice, btw ). If you like those (and ask really nicely), I might let you hear our cover of "Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money. All I ask is that you PLEASE ONLY DOWNLOAD THESE IF YOU ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT HEARING THEM. I don't want my precious bandwidth wasted on someone who's just going to snag the files and then make fun of us and how much Metallica or whoever else "rulz" or something.

Anyway, the recordings are from an 8 year old video camera and leave a lot to be desired, but we should have a CD out sometime in August or September at much better quality.

Also, if you like what you hear of us or are just into punk and/or ska-core in general, head to http://www.suckapunchrecords.com/ and check out some of the bands there... JV Allstars, Straight Outta Junior High (Flatline got a free CD from them partially thanks to me! ), Settle For Less, my personal favorites Fatty and the Twins, and the Unies all make for some quality listening. 4 Suckapunch bands are playing dates on the Warped Tour this summer, SOJH was just recently featured on a national compilation CD (Punk vs. Emo), and the new Suckapunch Comp that just came out features bands from regional and national labels Suburban Home and Asian Man Records (The Gamits, Big D and the Kids Table, and Link 80, specifically). Check it out; you might be hearing some of these names down the road.

I downloaded one of your songs a while ago and listened to it.

I really wanted to like it, or at least be able to tap my toe to it.

    I was disappointed.

I'm a big fan of 50s, 60s and 70s rock, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jethro Tull, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robin Trower and The Who, but this music doesn't strike a chord with me at all. It all sounds too similar to a lot of amateur bands I've heard play at various functions I've served as a cable-jocky for. Overpowering drum lines masking ratchy guitar chords and drowning out larynx-destroying lyrics. I’m guessing it was partially the fault of the recording device used. :-D

I'm not saying I could do better, nor am I saying that you're a crappy band. It's just not my kind of music, too clichéd.

Let me re-emphasize the REALLY CRAPPY part. Proceed at your own risk.

Though I have to say that your preference of music likely doesn't help things. If you're not familiar with or a fan of a type of music, it's going to all sound the same. The nuances that actually set groups and song apart just aren't as apparent to someone whose preferences lie somewhere else. I'm not meaning that in a negative way, either - we all do it. I can't tell one rap song from the next, one techno/rave groove from the other, etc. etc. *shrug*

No offence scythe, but you listen to music which is 90% soft rock love songs with too long solos..couldn't really be any more cliched ;p

I'll agree that Eric Clapton and Jethro Tull are somewhat into soft rock...

I'm listening to it right now, too bad the quality is so bad. I'm listening to "Indie" although I at one part it seems like your singer is groaning :D

atleast your out there doing stuff

10points for giving life a go.

but like everyones else, you just die in the end.

And you death will probably come sooner if you start touring.

It's actually a bit hard to tell with the recording quality. But honestly, if there wasn't so much static, I think you would actually sound alright. The music sounds good, but I can't tell if your singer is flat and monotonal, or if that's just the static and echoes. I can't understand what he's saying anyway. Sound like it could be fun to jump around to and stuff, and if you're having fun, that's what counts

Heh, you should hear my band play. We don't actually do much practicing, it's mostly just an hour and then get pizza, but when we do... Well, I guess we're okay, actually, but one time we invited some girl over (omg!), and she actually laughed at us and said we used one chord throughout the whole song, which is probably true. And our singer / songwriter thinks he's Eminem. I play keyboard, but since we don't actually have a bassist, I set the keyboard to the "bass" setting, lol...

I'd love to hear it in it's full glory, but the quality is really a problem...
