Headaches

Any cures?
Sometimes my head hurts. Usually it isn't mind-numbing, just a dull pain in either the right or the left side of my brain. I know that the best cure for headaches is going to bed, but sometimes that's just not an option. What do you suggest?

My thoughts:
Aspirin: Useful. One or two aspirins will reduce the headache to a point where I can ignore the pain, but not remove it. Is there anything more effective that anybody can suggest?
Paracethamol: Ridiculous. Paracethamol is better for the stomach (virtually no risk of stomachache), but at least for me, the results are nil. No effect at all. So taking that isn't worth it. It's also bad for your liver if you take it over longer periods.

Well i was gonna say advil or tylenol.

But if that doesnt help maybe you should just bang your head into a wall until you knock yourself out. Then you wont feel anything. (at least not until you wake up). But hey, nothing lasts forever.

As I sad, sleeping is not an option. Otherwise I prefer going to bed instead.

if regular over the counter medicine isn't effective you can get prescription medicine.. though that stuff just might make you drowsy anyway. like vicodin.. (sp?)

bah, but i doubt it's really that bad, is it? i heard caffiene naturally helps get rid of headaches.. i don't think it actually works. i've only tried it once, and it didnt' help.

stay away from loud noises if you can..

Acetaminophen is hard on the stomach lining, but thins the blood better than aspirin.

I've always like ibuprofen. Much safer, and is good for muscle aches as well.

Ok, the problem is that I want to be able to play NS even though I have a headache. Staying away from loud noises isn't an option, as I need to crank up the volume in my headphones so I can hear people halfway across the map. Things that make me drowsy thus aren't an option either:
"Why don't the gorge build anything?"
    "I think he's sleeping."

But thanks for the help anyway.
The avatar is just in case. My previous avatar was , but I found this one to be more suitable as I noticed I had a lot to complain about. Now I think that the first one fits better as I don't complain as much anymore, but I'm keeping this one just in case it's avatar-dependent. And the smiley is teh funni.

Why can't you just sleep? If it's because you'll miss out on playing NS then it's not that bad of a headache

Can't help there, as I've never had a headache in my life. Head-rushes, sure. But nothing to equal that which people constantly complain about. Not sure if it's just a genetic predisposition, or if I got started on caffeine early.

or as I do, 800 mg of Ibuprofen (or IBprofen as it is marketed)

then again I weigh 210+ lbs and only do that max 2 times a day (seeing how as that is 4 tabs of the stuff)

hehe, I just ignore most of my pain (bad joints ) however if it gets really bad I will take the 800MG of IB

according to the TV 9out of 10 doctors prescribe advil over tylenol.
But according to the TV again ALL hospitals use Tylenol as their first choice on pain relief.

I know. I already said that. But sometimes I just can't go to sleep. There are... pressing issues to attend to. Like NS. Or Morrowind. There, I said it, I'm a roleplayer. Yeah, a really serious one too. I am the kind of person who rants and raves about people in MMORPGs who don't "roleplay" properly. Are you satisfied now? Are you all satisfied NOW? ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO THINK I AM A GEEK? YEAH?
Omg, sorry about that, I'd better go get some sleep...

I get headaches rather often, and I've found that a lot of the time it's down to not eating or drinking enough. Try getting some food into you as a possible cure if head-pills don't seem to be doing anything.

A trouble shared is a trouble halved...or so they say.

Anyway. When do you get the headaches? It could be eyestrain, so maybe you should get them checked out, or sit farther away from your monitor, make sure theres no glare either and try changing the refresh rate. ( I've heard it can cause some people problems)

I was actually going to suggest soemthing like that. Ironically enough, I've found that if I hit my forehead with the palm of my hand when I've got a headache, it kind of redistributes the headache so that instead of one part of my head hurting lots, all of it hurts a little bit. In a wierd way it feels better.

    for an actual sugestion:
massage your temples (side of your head right between your eyes and ears, the soft spot that if you clench your jaw gets hard)

yah, just put your fingers on there and use circular motions to get deep in there (It works wonders mate, specialy if you can get another to do it for you, utter relaxation)
