<div class="IPBDescription">Apparently I'm getting dumber over time</div> This is NOT a thread to compare IQ scores. We all know that different tests and different ages range differently....

But I was watching "Test the nation" on fox today and decided to play along since I wasn't doing anything....

The language section kicked my butt and I only came out with a 52 correct questions and an IQ score of 123. This got me thinking a little bit, I've taken quite a few IQ tests in my time on this earth. In my mind, only 3 scores stand out as memorable.

- A 150 (obviously wrong, but still high even if you shave it a bit) in 9th grade (don't remember what test it was).
- A 131 after I got out of high school (the "Ultimate IQ Test" on <a href='http://www.highiqsociety.org/flash/nonmembers/iqtests.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.highiqsociety.org/flash/nonmemb...ers/iqtests.htm</a> )
- And now a 123 on a fox gameshow where my highest possible score was 135

So, I guess I'm getting dumber. At this rate I'll be Forrest Gump by the time I'm 40.

I dunno about you guys, but this makes me mad.

it was actually taken from a flash video that was making fun of metallica after the big Napster/Metallica fiasco. I dunno the guys name but it was supposed to be the drummer I think. They were portraying him as a zombie/"frankenstein's monster" kinda guy.

IQ has nothing to do with age. Your IQ wont change much through the course of your life.

bah, i don't care for tests anyway. i don't want to use my brain until school starts in fall semester.

Not really, as you get older you <b>should</b> get smarter--er, wiser, I should say. ]. Plus, if you're really little (immature), you might think it's funny to like mess up on the questions and stuff.
And IQs change... Well, when I was 6 I was pretty sure I didn't know most of the stuff in the tests. But now, 5 years later my IQ has been boostz0red.

IQ measures how quickly and concisely you can think and reason not how smart you are, so over time as you age depending on drinking, smoking, eating, habits as well as head injuries etc. you could easily have a downgrade in IQ

IQ is ranked against your age group. The IQ test is assumedly "harder" for older people; there wouldn't be any point in giving them the same test as ten year olds.

I thought that IQ was supposed to rate mental age versus biological age, so it should approach 100 with time anyway, n'est pas?

I did one when I was 13. I got 144 or so, though it was english and I didn't undestand all the question at that time. I think that test was faulty because I'm not that smart.

Now if I took a test I would barely reach 80. At least I feel a lot dumber and I've had time to kill many braincells <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

Edit: Heh, pretty funny that most of the people here have IQ of 130 or something(or so they say), since 100 should be average. Either people playing NS are very smaaaart or they lie a bit <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'> or then all the IQ tests are too easy and in reality we all are 100. Or 90.

I seem to remember hearing that NASA are training monkeys to be good at IQ tests.

I really don't trust IQ tests. I got 110 last year when I was 16, and my 13 year old sister got 120. She admitted herself that 10 of her correct answers were guesses (damn you multiple choice IQ tests!!!), which put her "IQ" up by 3 points per correct answer :/

So you're telling me that if I accidentally tick the wrong box my IQ goes down 3 points? Uh oh, me no function brain well without.

Going to take that "ultimate IQ test", ill post again when im done.

I got 137 on one when I was like six or something, and got something like "in the top 90%" on a similar type of test (not an IQ test) when I was 13 or so.

I've answered all the questions but I can't figure out how to get it to mark my test!

Is that part of the test? If you can figure it out, you're a genius?

I got 124 on the "Ultimate IQ test" I'll check it again in a few years, the reason you got different scores probably has something to do with the fact that you took different tests, your brain might be decaying but if you take two different IQ tests it is incredibly unlikely that you will get the same score on both, one of them might be more accururate than the other, you might be better at one type of question than the others and one of the tests might be more heavy on the questions you can easily figure out and the other might have ones you absolutely hate (those "If you were to fold this up..." ones for me... ugh). The best way to find out would to take a test now, wait a 10 or so years and make sure you have forgotten all the questions and take the same test. And age does matter btw, when you are young everything is still growing, you get smarter and smarter as your brain grows, once it stops growing you stop getting smarter, so as soon as you are born you IQ starts raising until a certain point and then it stops and presumably falls gradually, see my point?

who would worry that we copied you ? FOX is renowned for their 8pm shows that are based off of some crappy concept (e.g. the guinness world records show, joe millionaire, various evil knievel stunt shows). I wouldn't be surprised if the beat up small babies for the ideas. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

And since some of you have gone against my wishes to not compare scores. Please only post scores from the Ultimate IQ test so we can at least have a standardized source. Otherwise It's just as invalid as my supposed 150. Even I don't believe that was correct, I mean, come on, 150?<img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'> I've never landed a score in the 140 range, but somehow that one test decided 150.

And on a side note for the people that took the ultimate IQ test, I have to agree that the folding questions really really sucked. Some of those were guesses even after thinking about it for a good 10 minutes.

Well, the test is the same, no matter what the age, but the final results are divided by your age (hence the Intelligence QUOTIENT), so age DOES have something to do with it, so a certain extent.

Basically, as long as you continue to learn, and read, and grow mentall as you age, your I.Q. should remain about the same, or even improve. On the other hand, if you neglect to exercise your mind regularly as you age, your I.Q. will decrease over time. But as far as you getting more stupid [WHO]Them, I wouldn't take Fox's word for it. If you're really worried about it, grab a test from the library, and take an honest-to-goodness test or two.

Or just sit back, relax, and have another drink. Your brain cells will thank you. Trust me.
