So I Let An Orthopedic Surgeon Molest My Mouth...

Woooeeee
Well, this is fun. I've had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out, been turned into the much-famed chipmunk from swelling, and am to this minute continuing to bleed out my entire face (or so it seems).

So I turn to you my fellow forum monkeys when I am in peril: how the f*^$ can I get these cheeks to stop bleeding sooner?

I've been wearing, and continue to wear, gauze for the last 7 hours. Painkillers taken, replacing it every hour, blah blah blah. But the bleeding still hasn't stopped, which I understand is a litle strange for how LONG its been. So any of you who have experienced know what and what not to do?

For example, if touching the inside of my mouth is a no-no, someone say so. I feel that I do it quite a bit when replacing gauze, and I'm not sure if it's slowing the process or if I'm just paranoid.

    I left it alone and didn't move for quite a few hours, played some games (no voice comm), didn't move, read a book;
Basically I took a day and a half off, and by that time, the bleeding was done and the swelling had changed to an ugly yellow color on my face.

Yeah, I also had yellow, swollen cheeks. It was actually more painful when I first got bracers than when I got my wisdom teeth out because I was on stronger painkillers.

Leave it alone. Gauze or cotton wool or whatever, but don't probe it. Put it this way, you're not going to decrease your recovery time by a day every time you touch the wounds, but it's not a good idea to disturb them. Especially if you fiddle too much with the sutures.

Basically, just be patient. Get used to the taste of blood (after a while you don't notice). Swallowing your own blood won't kill you.

Umm, yeah, don't touch the inside of your mouth. Also, refrain from moving your mouth in a way that would tear the wounds open... because that's bad. The bleeding probably should have stopped by now. I think mine had.

The bleeding has by and large ended. I'll be eating soups and other softer foods for the next few days, just in case. And I'll definitely avoid any voicecomm games (including NS ), stop stretching or even opening my mouth beyond what is necessary, and will NOT probe the wounds (against my desire to "ckeck up" on things).

    Thanks for the tips guys.

It's only been seven hours! Somebody's impatient...

I experienced minor bleeding for several days, if I remember correctly. It wasn't extreme, but it was evident on the gauze. The swelling went down after a day or two.

Just make sure he got everything. My dentist missed my fifth wisdom tooth.

The only way the pain will go away is if you feel the pain. Really experience it. Just feel the sensations as well as you can. It's hard to explain but once you do it you'll know exactly what I'm saying.

Punch yourself in the cheeks a few times. That'll help too. Experience it.

Just watch for infection. My left side got infected and it sucked 10x worse than initial recovery. Especially since part of my throat started to swell and made it hard to breathe.

Just be glad you're able to post.

I have an insanely low pain tolerence, so I had to take more pain pills than what i really was supposed to just to keep the pain at a bearable level.

Between the pain and the pill effects, I was too messed up in the head to even get out of a chair.. I was off work for like a week, I was just completely messed up...

That isn't too bad, when i got mine out, i went home and went to sleep. When i awoke i discovered that about a fifth of my bed was covered in blood, yes blood. In fact, i bled so much that i stained the bloody (get it, get it) matress. In hindsight it was probably a REALLY bad thing considering i could have died. Because before i went to sleep i took a couple perks and they knock me out like no-body's business.

But as for solutions to your bleeding problem... time

Completely off topic, and a trifle disturbing, but once upon a time I had a pair of boxers with red polka dots. I dressed first thing in the morning, and forgetting I was wearing them, merrily went about my business. At some point in the day I needed to heed the call of nature, and unzipping my fly caught sight of what I thought was a massive patch of blood. My first thought was one of terror, my second was "omg, I've got to show this to a doctor, what are they going to think?" Fortunately I was mistaken, but there was a kid at school who had the misfortune to have it really happen to him.....

    1. Aspirin works well against any sort of pain in the head, not only headaches. I had several teeth knocked out once (soup for three weeks), so I know. Avoid Paracethamol, it's less efective (at least for me) and bad for the liver.
    2. Icecream. The colder the better. It reduces the bleeding and the swollenness. Again, I talk from experience. I am the knocked-out-teeth-master. Heed my words or feel the dental pain.

I had to get only the top 2 removed (the easier ones) thank god

But the one on the right side of my mouth wounldnt budge. i only had the novacaine I was perfectly awake and alert as to what was going on.

i coudlt feel any pain but i was sitting the chair listening to my music (techno of course) with my head phones.

Sudenly the orthodontist gives a sideways glance to his aids then looks at me, I coudlnt hear b/c of my music. But she handed him this evil looking plier like divice. Iw as like "oh *shat"

He had me in a head lock trying to get that stupid tooth out. Hes a really good dr. and so he was trying to get them out without hurting me/ mouth region. But yea it was kind of funny.

I was like. Hmmm im in a head lock with this guy shoving this huge metal tool in my mouth. This must look really funny.

DONT SUCK ON ANYTHING, it will pull on the stitches and can rip them open, but mostly it just hurts.

mostly just avoid straws, but i had a hard time avoiding cancer sticks for the four to five day recovery time.
