Planing To Install Ns...

LokeLoke Join Date: 2003-02-25 Member: 13988Members
I'm planing to install NS on my second computer.
It is a:
Pentium II 400mhz
128MBram (used to have 384, but I took it to my new computer)
TNT2 Ultra Gamer
30GB

That's about what you need to know.
But my question is, will the game run good on this? Will I have a good framerate?
You may wonder why I don't play on my other computer, but that is because my two other brother's use it alot and I don't have so much time to play on it before they kickban me from it. But I use this computer alot... the old one.

Thanks for reply.

    upgrade the ram to 256,
    update any out of date drivers,
    make sure that harddrive is pretty fast,
    If half life runs fine,then its prolly good to go

    I reccomend you try it and then uninstall it if it dosen't work good enough. But that dosen't look too bad you should be able to get around 20fps.

    <b>1. "upgrade the ram to 256"</b>

    Got a problem with that, don't have the money. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <b>2. "make sure that harddrive is pretty fast"</b>

    Oh, it is pretty fast thought.

    <b>3. "If half life runs fine,then its prolly good to go"</b>

    Well, HL runs pretty good with this computer. I just played through Opposing Force, HL and Blue-Shift and they worked well. But I got some slowdowns when it came to big open areas with a lot of enemys.
    Also when I fighted against 4-5 marines/aliens it became pretty unstable. But it worked though.

    Thanks for your time.
    Slowdowns or not, I'm gonna test NS out.

    Nope, not in Natural-Selection. At least not until 1.1.

    You see, in Natural-Selection, many in-game actions are tied to your framerate... Like building structures, refueling of jetpack... Even firing speed. This will be fixed in version 1.1, but until then, framerate matters.

    So what is to be done? Tweak. Lower res, run in 16-bit colour, increase memory given to HL, run with bilinear filtering and no aniso filtering. Etc.

    From the faq:
    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->What will I need to play?
    You need a Pentium II 400 mhz machine CPU (or equivalent non-Intel), 32 megabytes of RAM and any graphics accelerator supported by Half-life. Software rendering support is planned for the future, but not until a future release of Half-life. You also need an internet connection, a keyboard and a mouse. Windows 95 and above are supported. Lastly, you'll need a copy of Half-life or Counter-strike retail. If your machine runs one of these well, it should run Natural Selection comparably.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    If I'm gonna to test 1.1, then it will be on my other computer for sure. Not this one.

    And I already fixed so I play with 16-bit and so on. Tested it out, runs smooth. But with some slowdowns like I said before.
