OMG! H4><!!!!!
there has been some topics about Desktop, and NOW I PRESENT TEH "elite" 3D DESKTOP!!!!!!!!1111111
3DNA enables you to have a room as your desktop, haven't tried it yet so i can' really say much about the quality yet, but i'm dl this right now with about 30M left.

the different rooms scale from normal rooms you could find in a house(except for the icons ) to surrealistic or Sci-fi areas...

I used it for a while. It's very pretty, and while not complete rubbish, it serves no practical purpose. Instead of moving a mouse, you basically Walk and Use. In terms of time, that's more of a backwards leap. And I do not recommend it to low-end comps (P3 is absolute lowest).

I liked it, but my Comp didn't run it well.

My comp ran it well but I didn't really like it. Looks nice but like Jav said it's not practical.

its slow, it don't look that good (though the TSA skin fror it wasn't that bad) and is pointless

there is a 3d file browser for linux, it is sorta amuzing, but the only real point is to go through your porn collection, seeing how as the representation of pictures are the pitues them selves, same with movies.

all in all, untill 3d desktops give me MORE controll and flexability, and mostimportantly SPEED I think they are silly gimiks

Bleh. I want a *USEFUL* 3D desktop. Where it actually helps you to have it turned on, rather than actually lowering your productivity and taking a lot longer to do things than it used to (but gosh it looks cool... bleh).

Only something like in Out Of This World would do for me. :P

Someone made a NS themed 3DNA desktop awhile ago here:

    http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...t=14438&hl=3dna

    - Dead links, but maybe you can contact him...

Hmm... how that I think about it, I'd love to see creative viruses for this desktop.

/turns around to face desktop TV, when all of a sudden, you are faced with a bouncer...
Bouncer: Let's see your desktop ID
Me: Who the hell are you?
Bouncer: You can call me Norton Security Guard; recently hired to protect the premises. Don't have ID? Beat it.

    *computer resets*

man 3DNA is so old.......until they make it use less resources for normal homeusers and better intergrated it has no commercial success......

The 3D Desktop thing is certainly an interesting idea, but unfortunately it just doesn't seem to have any practical use other than eye-candy. I haven't installed it so therefore I can't really justifiably bash it, but it doesn't appear to have many loyal followers here.

Maybe this kind of desktop will be commonplace within the next few years. I just hope it gets a great deal more functionality before then.

I wouldn't mind useing a similar program if it was kinda like a tight ready room, and easily moved around like in NS, and could be customizeable...

It would likely get old after a while, but it'd be amusing for some time, especially if it's like cydonia

I wonder if something similar can be designed to shut off when you begin a task, so your comp is not overloaded running both the 3d thing and your task :-\

Walk up to a computer and press use to switch back to normal desktop mode? lol

ive tried an earlier version of that same thing, it was utter rubbish, your icons become floating cubes in a room and you walk about it, SLOOOOWW.... it was a total waste of productivity.

i want one 3d similar to the white room in the matrix reloaded Zion docking bay, they could use two hands to do the icons and they were all within easy reach.
the point of the 3d file structure would be to ahve 360 degrees of "desktop" space. it really could be awesome some day in the future.

the reason they eat so much cpu power is ebcause they dont use the video card at all, its rendered in "software mode" to use an HL reference

if someone made one that utilized my video card and therefore ran smoothly, and was easily navigated it would be amazing. imagine businiss machines actually using their gf4mx!

I want to see an OS that speaks the old PowerGlove hack. Toss in a pair of shutter glasses, and set up your machine how you like it. Perhaps a Rubik's Cube for those inclined to puzzles... twist, spin, twist, twist, and it unfolds into your word processor for easy typing. Twist, spin, spin, twist, and up pops a browser window.

Only difficult part is finding a pair of old powergloves, modding one of the frequency chips so they don't interfere, and then setting them up to speak to the serial ports with full six-point-per-hand locational and flex sensor data.

Heh... I've often thought about how cool it would be to have a 3d desktop. As in a windows style on, maybe with scrolling the mousewheel to zoom the camera forwards and backwards through the matrix of icons...

I got this, I dont think its too bad, the tutorial desktop theme is way to big with mutiple rooms however you can change ti and d/l new ones. Im using the loft map. Its just the right size. AL my stuff is where i need it etc, and I can go outside to play basektball lol

If you dont want to use the program all the time all you have to do is click an icon in the corner of your screen at any time to fast change between your real desktop and the 3D one.
