    In that case:

    (1) Decompile both the model with the jetpack you want, and the model with the marine you want.

    (2) Load the marine you want into Milkshape (with both triangles and skeleton), select the JP, and delete it. Also, on the materials tab, delete any materials used by the JP. Hide the model.

    (3) Load the model with the JP you want in (triangles only), select and delete all but the JP, and on the materials tab delete any unused textures (you should leave yourself with only the JP's texture(s) and the textures for the marine you want.

    (4) Unhide everything, and reposition the jetpack if you need to. Unselect everything. On the joints tab select "Spine 3", and select the JP (easiest done from the Groups tab). On the Joints tab click "assign" to attach the JP to Spine 3.

    (5) Export it all as a HL .smd file, and recompile the model.

Make sure you don't move the skeleton AT ALL through the process. In fact, it's best if you have "show skeleton" unchecked to be on the safe side.

More specifically, under file click merge

Well, since merge only works for MS3D files, you'll have a hard time merging an smd in there <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

No you wont have any trouble doing that at all, just import the SMD without overwriting.
