First of all, to stop the background music of NS , you just have to delete all files in your ns\music\ folder.
I dont know what you meant by "how to stop a single mp3 file" but incase you meant youre winamp , you can easily control it "IN-Game" by using HL-AMP.
Here's a link to the website : <a href='http://www.cscentral.com/disk2/hlamp/' target='_blank'>http://www.cscentral.com/disk2/hlamp/</a>
To use it in Natural-Selection you need to do the following steps:
1. Copy the *.dll in the Winamp\Plugins folder
2. Copy the commandmenu.txt in your NS-Folder
3. Join the game with Winamp on.
4. Bind a key to toggleeditps e.g. : "bind x toggleeditps" in console (of course without the ")
5. Bind another key to commandmenu e.g : "bind c commandmenu"
6. Press the toggleeditps key once and the little ´cursor should appear in the middle fo the screen.
7. Press the commandmenu key and choose youre options with the cursor.
8. To use the new Right-Clickmenu for NS again , you have to press the toggleeditps-key another time.

*EDIT* Ok you can also use the checkbox in customize. But why easy , when there is a more difficult way <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> .
Admittedly it's probably a longer way round of doing it via the "customise" menu, but that's just the way I change any settings.
