<div class="IPBDescription">just so we can see what was killed</div> i heard guns are no longer dropped upon death so nobody can pick them up and reuse the guns but can this be changed at some point so that the guns are dropped upon death but just cannot be picked up. maybe you can make them have smoke come out of them or sparks or somehow look damaged so people know they are not retrievable. this is just so players can see what exactly was lost or defeated. also can bodies be made to stay longer for the same reason. right now the bodies dissapear so fast that i look at the guns on the floor to tell if someone died. i'd say the bodies should stay at least until that player respawns.

    I believe this is done to lower system resources needed to run the server and help lag etc.

    i don't care about the lag. i want this feature badly enough. some visual cues are just that important you know. anway the lag for this shouldn't be that bad.

    Personally I feel that guns SHOULD be dropped... but have empty clips. That would make both sides happy. You won't lose u're 40 res investment *or whatever an HMG is* but u can't HMG/GL spam either. Also, make marines leave blood spurts like aliens... that was u can se the red stain, and know.. Oh... someone died.....

    that's not good enough. i want to know what and where they died and i want it in an intuitive visual form.

    if people have such ancient PCs that they slowdown coz of that then there should be an option on their computers to turn all these effects off since the problem is with their computer.

    i think this feature is important and the lag negligible. i cannot understand why people are not supporting me.

    There... You see, leave weaps on the ground, but make the clips empty...

    You see, people hated guns dropping, b/c 'rines could HMG/GL spam... one dies.. another picks it up, and keeps going.... Aliens can't just keep picking up fades, and keep going... when they die, they lost thier rez investment......

    I think they should be dropped apon death (like now 1.04) and have whatever ammo was left in them from the guy before!

    ok Majin i kind of agree with except how about consider that the gun may be damaged by being dropped or may be damaged by the attack. so it still kinda makes sense to not be able to use weapons from dead team-mates. the clips being empty makes no sense though coz that's not realistic. and i don't like things dissapearing so fast or not appearing at all coz that makes no sense either and looks confusing and lame too i might add.

    btw the slowdown for bloodspurts is probably worse than bodies. i can't believe i have to argue for this. this is such a simple thing to make NS much better. it's like making the muzzle flash less blinding. that's like the easiest change to make and the one that is gonna improve the game the most.

    Oh, but it's perfectly acceptable that a medpack can instantly heal marines without them even bending over to pick it up, much less applying the healing ailment. Not only did you miss the point entirely, but I think you overshot it and hit some innocent bystanders as well. The no-weapon-pickup for marines was implemented on account of balance issues, not realism. Macguyvok was saying that once a fade dies, that's it - 54 res' down the drain. But when two marines die and drop their HMG's (two HMG's are about the equivalent of a Fade), then more marines can come and reuse their dropped weapons.

    I somewhat think that the weapons issue should stay the same way it is in 1.04, since, if you look at the Beta Disussion Forums, the reports say that marines win about 30% or less of the time. Why? Because of the much faster alien teching up. If weapons could be reused, then res' could be spent on other things like upgrades and such.

    actually, from everything I've read, marines walk around for half the game in HA+HMG or GL. Last I read, an upgraded shotgun took out an onos in 2 blasts. Now, it seems like they're compensating for the increased power. I may be totally off, and I guess it's all off topic.

    As for leaving stuff there for longer, it does cause a significant CPU drain, and that's a big thing in NS. If your computer can handle that, then big props to you. I know mine can, but 3/4 of the NS community probably can't. To me, it's not that big a deal. The sprite in the corner is good enough. I'd be willing to bed that most share my sentiments.

    Coil already worked in how this works in game logic via his fanfics. The evil nazi bacteria eat the nanites that the gun is made out of. Or the gun falls apart because the machines holding it together get lazy when not in use.

    Something like that.

    Actually, I <i>want</i> the serverside effects to be toned down a bit. I have a plenty-powerful machine (I can run HL2 no problem), but things like corpses, guns, etc all tie up server processes... which in turn leads to game server companies charging extra for Natural Selection. :-\ My friends and I want an NS server, but the prices most places charge monthly is way out of whack... I've even seen some that charge more for NS than BF1942 and UT2k3.

    i think the dead body situation is fine the way it is with 1.04.....there's plenty of signs to tell whether there has been a recent slaughtering in a room...bullet holes in the wall stay for long enough, alien blood for a bit as well...and although the corpse disappears, you can still see a dropped weapon.

    Although it might be cool to see a pile of dead fades in a room it would be too much of an unnecessary strain on cpu and/or framerate. anyway. if you're in the immediate area of any kills or anything, you'll <i>know</i> it has taken place from audio and visual cues, if you're on the other side of the map, it really doesn't concern you to see corpses still existing from minutes ago.

    as with the weapons issue, i see it as perfectly logical the way it is currently....you pick up a weapon, and it only has the amount of ammo left in the clip-and none in reserve, the reserve ammo i see as being kept on the player, the stuff in the clip is in the gun. The weapon is mechanical, a machine, whereas the human is living and can be killed, the mechanical object can just fall to the ground, and be picked up by a fellow marine....just as buildings can be recycled (where aliens can't do this)...it seems fitting to be able to re-use a dropped weapon.

    it's not too advantageous to pick up a dropped weapon all the time, in the midst of a battle it can be a disadvantage, i've picked up a hmg with 20 bullets left while losing my lmg with a full clip and reserve, and also it contributes to the teamwork aspect when you're making a last stand at base against the aliens and only have enuff res for the one heavy weapon.

    I have probably had as many bad experiences as good with picking up weapons left by dead people. I don't think empty clips are a good idea, since then you'll get double the frustration of picking up a gun (like grabbing a welder mid fight). I'm with the wizard in that I for one want as lower server side load as possible - just because it will mean more servers to play on.

    Human blood is something I think we'll never see. Flayra has said before that NS is still meant to be a reasonably 'family' game, and while alien blood (yellowy green anyway) is acceptable, red blood splatters are definitly a no go.

    Ether way and for whatever reason I like it. Always **** me off that an HMG was just sitting there and my skulk couldnt' chew it to pieces.

    That was a cool part about Alien vs Predator (though im not comparing the two games). In it as alien you could run around and destroy the pred and marine stuff to prevent them from having it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Eh, sort of... this is the Red Wizard sprite from FF1 for WSC and FFOrigins. *shrug*

    Back on topic, I've been able to survive okay using dropped weapons. I remember one game where after a skulk rush I was the only grunt left in a soon-to-be captured hive location. After that rush I was completely empty, but by using my fallen comrades' weapons, I was able to take out another two skulks and wound a third before I finally went down. Though that is still the ONLY time that has ever worked for me.

    Isn't cpu usage being cut drastically in 1.1? Are dropped weapons really affecting it that much? I don't like it at all that your weapon just disappears if you die. First of all it doesn't make sense (non-intuitive, despite whatever fanfic is out there), and secondly, it drastically reduces the usability of expensive weapons because they are so easily lost (essentially, nobody will ever want to make an assault, but only use expensive weapons for defense).

    So...is this true? is it a rumor? Why not just reducing the lifespan of dropped weapons, wouldn't that help, instead of getting rid of them altogether?

    As for bodies staying...that is just a visual cue (and yes it would be useful). I would imagine this could be done client-side only (since it has no effect on the multiplayer game). Is there such an option? I seem to recall CS having a "dead bodies stay" option.

    i said earlier that i think bodies are a client thing, you can make em stay longer, but i KNOW that blood and bulletholes are a client thing, turn up your max decals and theyll stay for a lot longer, set it to 10 and theyll dissapear right quick.

    I say they add a scream so you know what was killed ex: marine, it would make NS so much more suspensful and creepier, AND MORE FUN! oh man id jsut love to play at night in nancy and in 1 room you hear gun fires, bites and a scream, id be freaked out, it would also encourage scardie cats, noobs, or others to wait or call for backup before entering a room alone... i searched for sounds but later i found out that sound when marines die is merly jsut the gun dropping... DARNIT! please add A sound so people can change it so they COULD have the scream when a marine dies <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Agreed. If your team mates dropps a gun u should be able to pick it up and use it. Also you should be able to share ammo or give a team mate one of your extra ammo clips.
    this wont casue unballancing In terms of commanders job. it means that now you are short one more mag u could have had.

    And it would further promote team work.

    I think that making guns unusable after death is a bad idea. If a marine has an HMG its easy to kill him with 2-3 bites as a skulk where a fade is very hard to kill for a marine even with an HMG. As Aaron said, it's counter intuitive since a dropped gun in any other mod would be able to get picked up and used. A better alternative would be to make the gun be able to be picked up by a marine and would have same amount of ammo when it was dropped, but if you could make it so a skulk can "kill" the gun like a structure so it can't be used. They wouldn't stay there for a long time unless marines are making a big push and there's a whole team effort. I just see a lot less HMGs and nade launchers used unless the marines have heavy armor so might as well not be able to use it until armor is researched since no commander with his right mind would want to give away anything so fragile. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    first of all anything to reduce lag is a good thing

    another thing is maybe some of you that RUN servers havnt relised that NS uses a hell of alot of resourses therefor it lags and the price of NS servers skyrockets (bad thing)

    IF by reducing server load prices will come down and I will be happy (good thing)

    Also if i was to come up to a marine with a baseball bat and hit him front on with it, my gut instinct is that if i hit that pea shooter of his its gonna break, so if a nasty alien runs at 100mph at him with bit pointy teeth guess what? more lumps of twisted metal

    Why do people take it into THEIR own hands and mod NS? Iv seen servers with plug-ins to speed up gorge spit, move hives!, and also the worst one of them all - HUMAN BLOOD- I mean cmon its not your MOD, you have not coded until your fingers go numb and you fall asleep at the keyboard. SO if you want to make your own mod with these fetures in it dont use someone elses hard work to your own ends

    Personaly I think that not being able to pick up a fallen comards weapon is bad. Above it was posted that 2 HMGs = equiv of a fade. The only difference is that marines die a whole lot easyer than a fade to other types of aliens, lets say skulks. Ive taken out a group of 4 hmgs in a bace by my lonesom and lev 3 carpace. If the marines couldn't spawn and grab the weapons, that would have been 100 res down the drain, that could have gone into something that could have helped more in the long run. Im in the favor that there should be a button the marines could press to pick up the weapons on the floor, and be able to pick and choose, that way there is no auto pickup. Also, If marines don't drop weapons when they die, will the option for dropping weapons and giving them to other players be removed? Sometimes i pick up a welder ment for someone else, and i trade them for their pistol.

    okay, then my idea is to give the weapon a hitbox. it drops, I chomp it, it's intuitive and it's fair. Or maybe, just maybe, you could stretch your imagination a little and think "hey, the gun <i>probably</i> got injured in an attack (bitten, slashed, acid corroded major parts, etc), and it's now unusable". Trust the devs/vets/PTs, they know what they're doing. If it's a balance issue, do you honestly think it won't be corrected? Comon now.....
