Do Marines Still Drop Their Weapons?

<div class="IPBDescription">i havent read anything more on this...</div> I remember reading a topic, in which said marines now dont drop their weapons in 1.1. I want to know if anything more was said on this. BECAUSE IT WOULD BE **** THAT MARINES CANT DROP THEIR GUNS!. Can anybody tell me if marines can or cant drop their weapons?

    no marines no longer drop their weps (for now, as you should know all things changed are also stc)

    Kind of a good and a bad thing, that. It's awful at the moment for you to triumphantly kill that HMGer who's been giving you grief only for someone else to continue after grabbing his gun, but it'll be awful in 1.1 to be killed midway through welding something vital, and having to wait for the comm to drop another welder and for someone to carry it out to the weld point.

    Plus, what about mines - is there no way to get your pistol back after placing them?

    marines no longer drop weps when they die (I am rather sure you can still just plain ol drop em if you want)

    i guess if u know u are about to die u can drop ur hmg real fast so someone else can use it...dont know how many people would make that sacrifice tho

    Well, I guess that guy's signature "Only one out of two marines get an HMG! When one dies, the other one picks it up!", won't be very useful anymore if they can't.

    I am a bit split on this topic.

    On the one hand, it is very discouraging as an skulk, to sneak up on a marine with a HMG or GL just to have another marine with a JP swoop in and **** the weapon from the icy grip of the server garbage collection. From this perspective I might like it.

    However as a marine I would find it very unrealistic and annoying if the instant I died the weapon I was carrying vaporized into thin air. Could be very costly for the marines.

    A compromise might be this, if it were somehow possible to make dropped weapons destructable. IE, after mr skulk chomps down on the HMG marine, he could take his time to add a few more chomps onto the HMG, rendering it useless. However if he doesnt have the time then another marine might stumble upon this little treasure trove and pick up the unchewed weapon.

    well, if you also noticed that the marine weapons themselves have been upgraded (so it seems, 2 shotty blasts to down an onos, nades instakill skulks, gorges, and lerks, etc....), so it'll be harder to kill the marine weilding it. Think of it as an added incentive.

    BTW, I gleaned the upgraded weapons from what I've been reading in the beta forums, dunno how it's changed in 1.1n, since it wasn't commented on specifically

    What coil said makes it sound like if a marine dies with a hmg, the marines get their 20-25 (whatever it is for a hmg) resources back.

    I've played many games where if someone is killed while carrying a HMG/GL/welder they will tell the team where it is so someone else can go and pick it up. This is especially important when marine resources are low, either when the comm has just started spending res on heavy weapons or during the end-game when the marines are down to the last res tower. I think (as others have pointed out) that it will make it difficult to weld far-flung weld points, as if you die a team-mate cannot pick up the welder and finish the job, but will have to schlep all the way back to base for a new one.

    Still, no doubt the devs are aware of all these concerns and I have no problem bowing to their superior judgment on the matter. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Won't they still be used for weapons spawned by the comm? Those ARE the w_models aren't they (I don't know much about modelling)?

    You'll still be able to see your sexy world models when the comm spawns the weapons, and when people drop them by pressing 'g'.

    I would like them to keep welders dropping, but I guess making welders an exception to the rule would take a while to code (PS I know nothing about programming so no flames plz <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )

    No, it's explaining why weapons disappear and why weapons are cheaper then in 1.04. Note in coil's fanfic it says <b>fewer</b> resources, not thats it's 100% efficient.

    If they make it so that if you drop your HMG your safe, then all some guy will do is write a drop-bot for NS that will make you drop your gun a millisecond before your dead. Its a technically flawed concept, I hope they dont actually do it.

    Yeah I can see the drop gun bot thing happening too - but chances are that the bloke using it will use other cheats as well, so compared to them the drop gun thing wont be all that bad.

    The unbalance part: The com drops a welder,soldier gets welder goes n welds something,skulk kills rine drops welder welder dissappears com has to drop another welder for another soldier to go back and weld,and in that time it would give aliens time to expand like a gorge building offense towers at that local.Then rines have to keep attacking that area till it's cleared maybe therefore prolonging a game or something.

    I haven't tried it for myself yet but from alot of things I read I can just tell something will not be right and would probably have to be looked upon for further analysis etc.

    Well, if the soldiers were protecting the welder guy in the first place like they're supposed to, this really wouldn't be a problem.

    umm, as a point

    thats IS the point of PTing, to test and balance. don't think of it at 1.04 with weapons going away on death. Think of it as a revamped verion of NS were weapon dropping on death is an integral part of the game... b/c thats what it will be.


    also note, weapons are both more powerful (HMG reduced cone of fire, sguns insane RoF) and cost less to make.

    Look, you are all giving the PTs an flay ALOT less consideration for their intelegence then they deserve


    so?
    a marine no longer drops his welder? solution: protect the dude with the welder
    HMGs and GLs no longer can be picked up after death? solution: they are all ready more poweful and cost less.
    meh, I just don't get the point about flaming flay about something you havn't even SEEN yet. It will be balanced when it is released.
