Early Onos Strategy

<div class="IPBDescription">**WARNING** NEWBIE IDEA HERE ^_^</div> Im sure someone will give my strat a swift kick to the head... but im sort of a newbie to NS and was just wondering if this would work. Somehow I doubt it will.

Anyway, my idea is to quickly find a hiding spot the marines will most likely not find you at. Be it in a vent, or a dark alcove, or something. Anyway, once there, evolve into a Gorge. Now, go and get a soda or something. Basically, your saving for an Onos as early as possible. And you should have one before the 2nd Hive is even built. Then proceed into the marines base and trample it to death.

What will you and your gorge hide do if the marines lockdown the hive? And what if they find you?
Because this is your first post I also welcome you on the forums. Enjoy playing NS. You'll see your error quickly after a few games.

depends what one you are on about. in 1.04 (current version) you can't go onos until the third hive is built, so you are looking for a LOOOONNNNNGGGG wait until you get onos. If you are on about 1.1 however, it might work. But then again, an onos is too big to fit in a vent, so maybe not. Even if you manage to evolve, you might not be able to get out. I'm not sure about the res system in 1.1 either, but i dont think a gorg gets res much faster than skulks now anyway. Plus, if they did, you would most likely be kicked from the server for being "lame". Still, i wouldnt like to turn around and see an onos jumping out of a vent

Well yeah, I didnt want to try it on a pub server for that reason - people may get angry ^_^

Yeah, I figured it was a dumb strat, but I just wanted to get verifcation that I was an idiot.

no, gorges don't get rez any faster, and everyone has a 100 cap on rez. so no need to evolve.

3 hives? hm, shouldn't happen that often. you'll be slowing down the 1st gorge actually trying to do stuff for the team. and you've just put the aliens down one in battles by bowing out of the conflict.

But you'll get a handle on it. What you are doing is taking away from the main gorge, not a good idea, and it really can make some team mates mad.

well as before mentioned, your team will kick the snot out of ppl who gorge for ress, and the fact that you need to have 3 hives at the moment of evolving to go onos. While that strat may work in 1.1, you need 3 hives to go onos in 1.04 gg.

If i were running a server and you tried this, you'd find yourself banned quicker than you can say "aimbot". And i'm sure a lot of servers admin would agree with me there.

Going gorge and doing +nothing+ only cripples your own team (speaking aboiut 1.04 here, since i've no experience with 1.1). The other active gorge will be getting res at a much slower rate. Even if the marines did barely anything and had few rt's (which isn't very likely), by the time you've got a third hive so you can evolve into an onos, you'll get torn apart by level 3 hmgs while the rest of your team shouts at you because none of them can afford to evolve.

Seriously, if your new, dont ever gorge.

Be a bodyguard of some other gorge, and watch what he does. Then, if ur sure what to do, and there is no other gorges about, do so.

Btw, gorging is a very relaxing experience, most of it is building and listening to the calming sound of "schlick schloop" as u help the half built resource tower.

And if u have 3 hives in 1.04, feel free to gorge - the game is already won and babblers (fourth weapon) are hella fun!

Definately, i love it. Especially when i get a game where i don't die once. I just sit back, light a cigarette and plod my fat little hide around the map. It's a great way to wind down from a hard day's work, or a particulaly frantic previous round.

I usually gorged when I was still a newbie, because I got the idea what to do and how to do pretty quick, but I sucked as a skulk. Thats why I can't understand that when a newbie gorge is told to build a dc, he asks how. The system couldn't be simplier.

I go gorge when I know there are godly pwnage Skulks on our team but even though I consider my self a fairly decent Fatty I ALWAYS ask "Where should I build?" to get the best areas as I normally forget <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>
