Hey, im almost out of school so im tryin to make sure all my equipment works. Everythings good so far cept one thing. My BCD's not deflating right. If anyone here could gimmie a hand, I'd appreciate it.
a BCD messing up? You check the air valves that should be up at the top? Personally I'd take it into a dive shop to have it looked at. A faulty BCD is not something I want fixed by myself.
I'll be sure to keep an eye on this thread for some pointers and troubleshooting, as I'm going to be doing a diving course in September with a few friends of mine.

And good luck with the diving, best experience of my life. You going with PADI or one of the others? I got my advanced last November with PADI. After you get your Open Water, keep goin after more levels. And the BCD is new, I think that could be a problem.

So anyhoo, getting back on topic..........
Karma - we're planning on doing the PADI Open Water certification course. It's probably overkill since nobody in my cute little troupe has done any real diving before, but we figured it's better to have that extra knowledge just in case.
Besides, the price difference between the open-water and standard certifications is pretty much negligable - might as well go with the better one.

Sycophant, Open Water is what you do, definitley. It's geared directly for people who have never dived in thier lives. Hell, in my group there were 2 people with water phobias. After the course, they were cured. And good choice going with PADI, they are much more reconized than NOVI or one of the others. A PADI Open Water will get you diving to 60 ft. If you get you Advanced, the limit is 120. 120 ft is actually the limit for normal air divers. Also, an advanced will let you go on night dives and it qualifies you for differant types of searching. So basically if I were you, I'd get the Open Water, get about 10 more dives under you belt then go for the advanced. After that, skies the limit, you can go for divemaster, anything. Oh yea, make sure your in decent shape, climbing up ladders in 6 ft chop with about 75 pounds on your back is hard. Just think about doing a little jogging to get in shape before you take the course. And get a physical first.

Actually PADI Open-Water allows for up to 100 feet, but no cave-diving. Though I did sneak down to 117 when a manta ray knocked off my goggles at one point. Instructor was **** when we came up and my max depth needle was in the orange.
Got my open-water cert at Kailua-Kona, did a night-dive, and haven't had the cash to go back down since then. But it's a blast, and is a great conversation starter if you keep your card in your wallet.
I'd definitely recommend getting that BCD looked at by a licensed dive shop, and not just worrying at it yourself unless you've been shown how to take one apart, service it, and put it back together properly. After all, you don't want something bad to happen like the valves getting stuck *open*, and having to ditch your gear in the middle of a dive so you won't get dragged down.

Ayuh, i was just basically hoping someone has had the same problem. And wherd you get your Open? I'm lookin at the book right now, its says 60 ft. The advanced gives you 120, I know that. Im thinkin I might try mixed air this summer, local club's been going nuts over it.
pretty sure PADI allows depths up to 100 with open water Cert. Still 3 dives short of Open Water Cert, I'll probably do that this November when I go to Hawaii
