where can i get them from?
i was wondering if there is any place to download the standard ns maps from. ns_bast, ns_caged, ns_eclipse, ns_hera, ns_nancy, ns_nothing and ns_tanith. i've searched all over and i can't find them. is there some download spot i can get them from, or do i have to sift thru my ns folder and assemble all the parts of the maps?

You dont need to do any "sifting".
Just go into your ns/maps folder and THERE THEY ARE.
Also there is no assembling required!!!!!

but there are other map relevant files in other folders, too. e.g. for ns_caged there's the C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\ns\sound\ns_caged folder that contains map related sounds.
then there's C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\ns\gfx\env for ns_eclipse. i'm thinking there's probably other files for these standard maps all over my C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\ns directory. that's why i was wondering if perhaps someone had already gone thru the trouble to assemble these into zip-files for downloading.

Look man, WTH are you talking about?

All basic maps and the files needed for them gets installed after you run the installer for ns.

wow.

i realize that those standard maps come with the game. i guess that's why they're called standard maps, huh?
i haven't deleted my standard maps, i just need to know where i can find downloadable exe's or zip's for them. come on, how hard can it be?

Pretty tough since no one has ever made a seperate executable file for each standard map, since there is absolutely no demand for them.

I'd just like to know why you'd want the original maps...if you have NS you have the maps. If you don't have NS, then you don't have any need for the maps by themselves.

If you really want a zip file of the .bsp to satisfy some crazy fetish or something, just zip up a copy of it yourself

And don't forget to include all standard sounds and wad files in every zip file

You mean you want the original rich map files? No no no, they don't give those out for you to edit. And I am still confused about your topic, why do you need them exactly? If you are looking for already compiled standard maps just download NS again. I'm pretty sure mappers don't give out their un-compiled maps, and never will.

But you can't play those maps outside of NS, they've got entities that won't work in standard Half-Life (like trigger_presence which controls some sliding doors).

If you really want a zip with just one map and it's relevant files, copy the BSP to your valve/maps folder, and try to run it. It will give you an error saying there's a file missing (like a wad, a sprite, a sound effect, etc.). Just keep on copying the files over (and keeping track of them on paper) until the errors stop. Now you have your list of files, and can zip them all up.

But why, we'll never know.
