[wip] Dropship World Model

JaegerJaeger Join Date: 2002-11-28 Member: 10202Members
<div class="IPBDescription">anyone interested after I finish it?</div> It's been requested a few times: A decent model of a dropship that can be used for a new map. So far I've gone through design after design, each one turning out more high-poly and unuseable than the last.

So I tried a new approach: I converted a bomber from Freespace 2, rebuilt it, and turned it into a transport.

You can find a thread of it <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=33882' target='_blank'>here.</a>

I'm no mapper, so I don't know if it's possible to do this or not, but the cargo hold is large enough for a CC and some spawn points. Whether or not you can put infantry portals is an iffy: The players may get stuck in the roof.

So quick to quick, might any of you guys be interested?

I really need some sort of spacecraft for my map and I have already a place
    where it would be. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo-->

There are about 3 dropships being made currently in the modelling forum, and this is one of the best.

Looks excelent. Im sure there is room somewhere in my map for a friendly TSA dropship to float around <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Heh.. actually, I was working on a worldbrush hollow dropship a few months ago, and ChromeAngel did some textures for me, but I didn't hear back after the first version and went on to other things. If people have interest in it, I could resume work, and maybe we could get Chrome to do some more textures. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Here are a couple of Hammer shots from the Chrome-textured version.

hm.. the 'preview' button seems to erase attachments. let's try that again:

edit: well, the image uploaded that time, but I just noticed that paint shop put a size stamp on the screenshots.. oh well.

Bah. I built a brush-based dropship a while ago (Februrary last year), and I've got absolutely no idea what to do with it - I'm too busy working on <a href='http://www.hl-nightwatch.net/' target='_blank'>Nightwatch</a>.

The ridiculous epoly is solely from the scientist passengers, it's the wpoly that counts.

These model-based dropships are looking very nice, by the way, and could potentially be a hell of a lot more detailed than my misshapen lump-thing. But perhaps someone could persuade me to release the textures and RMF for mine for public consumption... <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'd love to use both of them, I made a light transport for my map but it basically sucks <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Frickin A. Ok, time to go see if I can make my dropship look better...

Version 1 of my dropship model is released.

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=34196' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...ST&f=19&t=34196</a>

This is a prelim analysis of my model, and to see if it's suitable for any maps. The skin will appear blurry in-game because of its size. I used a 512x512 skinmap, and I can't get it any better. I will be attempting a reskin after I get a new skinmesh back from Ollj. For now, enjoy fellas. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The brush-based one looks awesome!

I was thinking when Jaegar was working on his dropships though that maybe the best way to put one in a map would be to have a composite of brushes (for the main body) and models (for fine details). Wouldn't that be the easiest way to get it all working? (if for example you wanted the inside of the ship to be usable).

sexy! very sexy! to create such modells is a gift my friend <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
but I would like worldcraft models better. one the one hand they drop the speeds more then a modell but you have more room to integrate it in a map because you dont have to care about collision areas and specials like moving doors, elevators, some custom lights. of course you can add all this to an model as well but placing is a hell of work! but at least some sexy modells <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
