anyone interested after I finish it?
It's been requested a few times: A decent model of a dropship that can be used for a new map. So far I've gone through design after design, each one turning out more high-poly and unuseable than the last.
So I tried a new approach: I converted a bomber from Freespace 2, rebuilt it, and turned it into a transport.
You can find a thread of it here.
I'm no mapper, so I don't know if it's possible to do this or not, but the cargo hold is large enough for a CC and some spawn points. Whether or not you can put infantry portals is an iffy: The players may get stuck in the roof.
So quick to quick, might any of you guys be interested?

Here are a couple of Hammer shots from the Chrome-textured version.
edit: well, the image uploaded that time, but I just noticed that paint shop put a size stamp on the screenshots.. oh well.

The ridiculous epoly is solely from the scientist passengers, it's the wpoly that counts.
These model-based dropships are looking very nice, by the way, and could potentially be a hell of a lot more detailed than my misshapen lump-thing. But perhaps someone could persuade me to release the textures and RMF for mine for public consumption...

This is a prelim analysis of my model, and to see if it's suitable for any maps. The skin will appear blurry in-game because of its size. I used a 512x512 skinmap, and I can't get it any better. I will be attempting a reskin after I get a new skinmesh back from Ollj. For now, enjoy fellas.
I was thinking when Jaegar was working on his dropships though that maybe the best way to put one in a map would be to have a composite of brushes (for the main body) and models (for fine details). Wouldn't that be the easiest way to get it all working? (if for example you wanted the inside of the ship to be usable).
but I would like worldcraft models better. one the one hand they drop the speeds more then a modell but you have more room to integrate it in a map because you dont have to care about collision areas and specials like moving doors, elevators, some custom lights. of course you can add all this to an model as well but placing is a hell of work! but at least some sexy modells
