I see no reason why not? If the textures fit the theme of NS then you *should* be able to use them.

I'm thinking about legal issues and possible copyrighted material.

iirc any and all textures used in "official" HL mods are available for use in any HL mod. THis includes CS and now DoD....and of course..Blue shift and Opposing Force.

I think thats up to the Opposing Force developers.

Valve and Gearbox have both stated that official content used in Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, and Counter-Strike are free for use by mod development teams for Half-Life. I can only assume the same now applies to DoD. This does not apply for third-party content for each, of course, which still is at the discretion of the creator.

Well... DoD is not really neccessary in NS Or does someone attempt to do a level with 300 year old houses?

Hey now, just because you *can* use it doesn't mean you should

The most important fact is that NSteam stated they don't want to see textures from other mods in their nsmaps. It doesn't occurs with halflife.wad anyway, so the same with opp force ? (of course, hl is not a mod...)

I think the chance of creating an official map for ns with other than ns or dod textures will tend to 0%. custom textures are allowed but I cant understand this step. shurely the ns team doesnt want other wads "ripped off" (like this expresion very much ) but nearly every decent mapper uses thousand of custom textures from other mods. so me: used some cs textures for dod that fit quite well.
the official map restrictions seem to be weird.
who cares? only the old school server admins play the standart maps of a mod. if your all maps are created well, look cool, super gameplay... It will definitely be played. simply work faster... this bunch of "funmaps" that are sowhat boring after the first round... they suck!
so if you have a good idea, make it real, no matter if it has the chance to get official. btw: one new map (ns_fenris) is not what I call a playable map. at some spots the architecture is to cruel. there are better maps out there. you see ?
