Half-life Cd Key

How to change the one my comp uses
When I first started playing Half-Life mods, I borrowed someone else's game and CD key. I liked it enough ( partly due to NS) that I bought my own copy (read: CD key). Now, however, I need to change my copy to use the CD key I bought, so that my friend and I can both play online at the same time. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Uninstall, reinstall. Backing up any configs and savegames beforehand is fairly straightforward, and it's a lot cleaner / less risky than editing anything like the registry for it.

    It's in the registry.

    You can use this program:

There are programs one can download to change the CD key without uninstalling.

I think it could be done by using regedit. Just "run" regedit and find Half-Life and its key there.

Edit: Ok, I tried it and it should go like this...

HKEY_CURREN_USER --> SOFTWARE --> VALVE --> HALF-LIFE --> SETTINGS --> KEY and put your new key there. I don't know if it really works but it's worth a try

Edit2: Hah, I beat Firestorm to it

Start, run, type "regedit" then click OK.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware\Valve\Half-Life\Settings and change the "Key" value

Pretty much all the answers here are right. Uninstalling or direcly editing the CD key will work fine. If you're unsure of how to do the regedit route , I'd really recommend going with the uninstall and reinstall though. Safer, but more boring to wait...
