Topic says it. How are the pings in 1.1? What about performance? Playtestser, please answer <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

I believe I read a 50% increase CPU optimization (a ton). This will not affect pings all the time, merely more stable pings. On average pings will start at 30-60 for me, and rise to 150-200 by end-game. This is just the CPU having a hard time keeping up with all the entities (waypoints, weapons, health packs, but mostly buildings). And then the signal back to the players gets "lagged" because of all the CPU troubles.

Less resources eaten by NS means lower pings for everyone.

Simple example of what I mean:

1.04: You join a server when it has a ping of 100 for you with 0 players. It slowly fills up with people to 20 players, and your ping is now 200. This is because all these players are eating up the server's RAM.

1.1: You join a server when it has a ping of 100 for you with 0 players. It slowly fills up with people to 20 players, and your ping is now 150. This is because all these players are eating up the server's RAM, but less so than in 1.04.

If less reasources are eaten by NS, that means more RAM for the server and more RAM = better pings under stress.

    *sigh*

the ram/cpu cost for players will be the same... It's the buildings that slow down the server.

I don't want to get Flayra in trouble by saying that things are going to be a lot better, but in one of the early 1.1 screenshots, there was a scoreboard display and the pings looked mighty good for a 26 person server. (everything was in the 50-100 range save for the guy who was connecting from Austraila or New Zealand on a 56K). This was on Bast, I believe, which IIRC, is the second laggiest map behind Hera (in terms of entities or something).

[edit, it was a 26 person server, not a 20 person. Thanks Marik.]

One of MonsieurEvil's official sets of teaser screenies. Gotta love 'em.

I think that there was something in the changelog about changing server efficiency by a nice margin, so I guess that the ping and server performance should be better. Although, it still depends on your connection and the bandwidth that the server has availiable.

    My bad

Whatever, the point I am trying to get across is the same:

MORE RAM IS AVALIBLE! WOOT WOOT WOOT!
