The 4 Gorge Strategy

I just played a game on GibGames where the skulks all rushed marine base until everyone had 33/33. Then 4 of us gorged, capped nodes, then ungorged, and kept doing this until we had almost all the RT's on the map. The main gorge still got his resources fast because there were only 4 gorges for short periods of time (until the 2nd hive went up). The 2nd hive went up quick; we built it before putting up DC's. Alien victory.

I think the marines could have beat us if they had been more agressive. Our timing wasn't perfect so after 2nd hive went up it took a while to get to Fades-- we eventually won with 3 hives and all fades but I think the marines could have taken down a have if they had acted faster.

    gorging to put up a res than ungorging can be a good strat if pulled off correctly, I usally don't go as extreme as 4 gorges puting up a res and ungorgin, I just become second dedicated res capping gorge, while the other saves for a second hive...

    Your strat leaves no upgraded lifeforms on the kharra team. It forces the rest of your team to stay in skulk form which can be a big disadvantage. Having lerks and rsr's for when the 2nd hive is built are somewhat vital to alien survival.

    I think you got pretty lucky. The marines should have done something in all that time. They should not have had too much trouble with uncarapaced skulks rushing their base, and they should have been able to get resource nodes in this time. With all these undefended res nodes, at least 1 or 2 should have been killed, or maybe even a gorge.

    Sounds almost as brilliant as having gorges attack the marine base solo... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> I don't know about you, but it sounds awfully weird if the marines just sit in their base and let you capture all the resource nozzles in the map. I mean, the minute you get 4 gorges, it's the minute rushing stops and the marines start moving forward. Second, it sounds even weirder that youre able to keep marines pinned to their base even without carapace! I'd guess it was a typical n00bs vs. experts game where the experts win no matter if they build stuff at all... So sure, if you get to the expert team, have 4 gorges, build only 1 sensory chamber, go rambo and leave enemy RTs the way they are, go straight for their IPs as a solo gorge and win. Great...

    I believe it is mathematically provable that 2 gorges is optimal if they stay gorges. As far as having a large portion of the team change to drop res towers... That's an extra 13 res per gorge which doesn't really help much, given that 2 gorges will suck up so much as is... And, unlike 2, having 5 total at any given time means that marines get to run rampant and lay waste... Not a pretty picture, esp. since you're running around without upgrades. I still prefer the 2 gorge if you can spare, 1 if not system.

    Its much better for the single lone gorge to just recieve overflow instead of everyone temp gorging...you waste 17 + 4 x 4 (81) resouces doing that...thats a hive.

    the question is how much does a single RT gives u.. if it can provide those 13 res in a short period of time i think it's worth it.. I realy need to get my hands on the res flowing chrat or somthing like that

    This is how i proceed when I am gorge, mostly on 18 or 20 people maps.

    . choose the hive you want to offer to marines and inform your team you will take the other
    . go to your 2nd hive and gorge there
    . have your skull let the rines got the 3rd hive
    . put 2 ress tower and save for hive
    . have someone being gorge and put 2 ress tower + defence tower
    . put 2nd hive
    . put def in this hive, web

    Usually marines get their hmg / jetpack at this time.


    The tech tree of alien can be fast. You just have to let the skull capped at 33, mean they shouldn't spend their money through carapace, means you shouldn't build def tower.

    In the timeline above, by the time they realize you will not put defense tower, you already are saving for hive and one other gorge is capping the 4th or 5th ress. He will certainly start making DC at the time you set the 2nd hive.

    without cara u can't be sure that your skulks can gurad the 2nd hive/ take res

    the gorges are not building DC to please the skulks but to give them an adventge while gurding your 2nd hive and preventing the M from taking RT"s.. vannila skulk are very easy to kill...
