Export / Origin Help

I'm sure its something stupid...
...I can't seem to get my models to export properly on export (using 3ds 4.2) and convert to a mdl and keep the model's position at 0,0,0. These are simply little models (mostly signs for a map) so I basically made a little box, added it's material, made sure the whole thing was at 0,0,0 in 3ds Max, exported it to an smd, ran the little utility by valve to convert to a mdl and everything is fine... Except that the model is waaaay to high, is shifted slightly, brought forward some, and it looks like its rotated a bit too? I did notice a little blip in the instructions of the qc file about $origin, but changing that doesn't seem to help at all. I can have $origin 0 0 0 or $origin 100 200 -300 and nothing changes. And even if it I could get it to move around some, I still have the rotation to deal with =/

So what n00b thing am I missing?

Well I just knew even after hours of staring at this stupid thing, the moment I posted this I would figure it out, and just in case anyone cares, it was something really stupid
