My only other issue is to how this would probably benifit organized play (where refined build orders are the norm), but hinder public games.
I don't want to be insulting, but I have to be honest, I don't think implementing this will ever be worth while (but only in my prolitarian opinion).
that's what i call a true NS fan <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
isnt it way too expensive? Would this mean that the res system should change?
Cuz if sucking is a level 2 ability and if I read it well that was 20 + 40 = 60 to get that far.
Also to get the other abilites u need more hives plus another 20 + 40 + 60
Also I cant imagine how this would work on a small map like eclipse.
I might have missed something since I didnt sleep last night...
3 months sounds more like it, the chambers need new art...
And will it add anything worth the effort? The research chambers will obviously be built at the hive, which is a high-priority target already. Chamber limits are still tied to the hive too, and with the weapons tied to gorge-controlled research, you'll give the gorges even more power over individual playstyles than they already have.
No, I don't like this suggestion.
Back to cost... GOD!!! The only reason that the marines are so expensive is because their res model is different and is all a collective thing. Remember that the alien model brings res to all creatures. I can see a few scenarios where this would work, like in hive lockdowns where the aliens are overflowing and need a counter, but it would also take a hell of a long time.
instead of 20-40-60 , it could be 20-20-20. If we choose this system at all.
*edit* -- it is very well thought out and i completely love it, just the cost. Also like the idea of a recyclegun. Heh, imagine if it could kill marines too <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
the current system works yes? There are a few bits and bobs that need ironing out... Why change the system when the system works 90% of the time? You're playing with fire, and time... NS players aren't going to wait around for v1.1 for ever ya know and I for one am a dedicated NS fan (hense creating the only decent league out there for UK + Europe (Yes including CB))
Come on think lads! Lets not jump up n down just because someone has a new idea or a spark. Would the benefits really outweigh the disadvantages.
(No offence to the guy that made up the system <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> )
Other than that, small issues here:
- Wouldn't the fact that gorges need Defense Research in order to get healspray mean that the Defense branch becomes all-important once again? And since DCs are then only one research away, we might as well research that. Especially since we all know how powerful umbra is. Bile bombs for taking down unguarded turret farms would be great too. And now webs, stomp and paralyse (all great abilities if used by someone who knows what they are for (any marine that has tried to escape from a gorge constantly webbing him knows what I mean)) are only one research away, might as well do that.
- The only possible deviation from the above would be the sensory branch: One research level and the gorge gets blinding spit - the most powerful weapon imaginable, and not at all defensive. Imagine this combination: Gorge blinds marine, little skulk helper attacks. For comparison: Go into a game, and whenever you see a skulk, close your eyes and try to shoot it (make sure to tell the alien team that you're doing this, so they can take full advantage of it).
