Standing Still

do you fly around or stay static.
i have noticed recently thet i have adapted to never stopping movement... even if i guarding a corenr ill be crouched and strafing left and right.. and when im buying ammo im darting all over the place..

when im waiting for comm to do stuff i keep my eye on entrance but im NEVER still anymore even when i build i try to to have a blind spot for more then 3 seconds or so...

does anyone else do this i havent noticed many others flying around as hectic as me...

but i think it helps... because.. well.. if some sneaky skulk gets down one good chomp and your nearly dead... if your constantly moving he may miss his chomp you will hear the noise and have time to put up a fight...

what do you think?

I stay still. In fact I have utterly impressed clan members by my ability to remain frozen in one spot, motionless for hours, like a lizard.

I like to keep moving, too. Might just be because I run up too many long hallways as a skulk and keep getting shot.
Also, moving around a little is less boring than sitting on top of a crate in reactor room waiting for 22 more res without going anywhere. Defense is better, too. I hate having my back turned to anywhere, so I circle the building a lot or try and have most of the screen covering the entrances.

Sometimes I won't run all over the place when fighting skulks, but that's generally because I have a shotgun and want to hit them.

If I'm to guard a place, I would try not to move too much because moving around usually means the enemy can hear you. I'd pick a good vantage point and just sit there.

i move while building and geting ammo, and sometimes when guarding, but usaly i sit still to guard, often right next to the door, you should see the look on skulks faces when they run by and you gun em from behind

    ok...
    couple of things:
your moving equalw lots of noise.. always better to suprise your enemy then otherwise on the other hand your mov making you sharper.. imho if you get along without moving do it,,, ofcourse that doesn't include the armory and building part..in those sceanrio you made a lot of noise .. so you are better moving..maybe won't be sneaked up..
ofcoruse all depends on the location...

Its a good idea to keep an eye on entrances while building and getting ammo. But when you are gaurding, stay still. You make less noise, and you can surprise skulks. Which might give you the advantage you need to kill them. I myself have a habit of accidentally hitting the menu button, when I'm startled, which screws me over as a skulk. So yeah if you are getting ammo at the armory and the armory is in a spot where your back is always toward a possible entrance for skulks, moving around in a circle around it is a good idea. But if you are asked to gaurd a corridor or hall, best to stay still, skulk can only see movement anyways.

if your one of those peeps that run around when teamates are near i really wish i could kick you in the nuts. Cause it could very easily get your whole squad killed. Sitting still in groups is better. Never dodge till you have to. Youll just block your teamates.

when you are in a group there in no problem for you to move.. since each marine would probably take another place so he can shoot the all room.. so if the skulks go for 1 marine te other will kill him on the spot..

    lol

All too often I've seen a squad of 4 marines fire all their ammo into each other back trying to kill on skulk who invariably chomps them all. Once all the marines are laying still on the floor I can get a good shot and take the skulk down with my pistol

Well, i like to stand still if i hear skulks. Its easier to locate where they are if you dont have to listen your own footsteps, specially with EAX turned on,the sound can echo little too much.. making it harder to 'know' wait... maybe Guess where the alien is. Anyway, when they cant hear you that gives you the advantage of suprise.

I usually move all the time, at least a little bit even when building, but in groups I stay a bit behind. When my teammates get attacked, it's easy for me to shoot the skulks a little further away without any risk of getting eaten. I'd like to see a squad that stays still when aliens attack! It's crazy to assume people won't "block" eachothers firing range when being shot by spikes or acid rockets... You have to evade or die. Staying still and looking your health drop to 0 is just as stupid as throwing your gun away and running home for mom's warm milk. The skill is not in watching and trying to analyze if your teammates will shoot you in the back: it's their responsibility to find a better angle and move further away if youre blocking em! I'd be damned if you can focus on your teammates who are behind you and focus on the alien that's in front of you at the same time! That's why it's your teammates fault if they shoot you in the back (unless you block em on purpose, in which case you are an a*shole). In tight passages you shouldn't move as a tight pack, cause then you won't be able to shoot past your teammates. Instead let one guy go first straight to the room trough a tight corridor to alert the skulks (I'm usually this unfortunate person ), while the rest of the team takes firing positions and shoots the skulks attacking him. In a tight group, you die a lot easier, so it's your responsibility to move away and loosen the formation.

It really, really depends on what you are doing. Most of the time, I like to be moving as well, especially when you're moving through the level, in a large room or somewhere you can be ambushed, moving around can save your life since you're dodging attacks until you can kill whatever is hitting you.
I usually move around when building, but I've found (same goes for getting ammo) that you move so slow anyway at that point, that you are much better off getting into a position where you have good visual range, and then stop reloading/building and engage whatever comes into your line of sight.
As for guarding hallways and such, really, I don't find any need to strafe. First of all, your attuning yourself to human vision. Although you're fighting against a Khaara, really you're playing against a human, and since human vision is much better attuned to identifying movement, all you're really doing when you're moving is giving that player a better chance to see you.
