    a tunnel made of shootable glass if shot room fills up with water and 2 watergates come down to seal the leak

    mabe a good idea for a dead end tunnel

    A clear tunnel just big enough for one thingy to walk through.  Model it after the observation tunnel thingies that they have in Sea World.  You know... the hemisphere of glass that you walk through and crane your neck all the way around to see the fishies?

    I had a similar idea excpet for a tunnel for a colony in a hostile atmosphere. I would prefer to have it be usable and indeed faster than other routes but theres the risk of bob comning in and doing a bit of kamikaze in there.

    since it's underwater you should make waterproof doors in every room that marines will be able to seal off. So the gameplay would be like in alienIII

    sorryu to bust ur bubble but first off
    i've started a mining map, its above water in a cavern (not taht im saying u cant do it.. im sure u can map better then me
    and 2nd underwater is really hard.. i tried it with my last map, got way to confusing carvin everything, if ur doing blocks it might work out, but good luck

    Lol my map ns_escape is an underwater research facility. They found some underwater caverns that lead into more that are "above water" and they found hive specemins (sp) and we all know what the rest would be.. They took over the facility..

    At least that's the story I have so far.. I'm more worried about the map right now.

    One thing to consider, just for realism's sake.........  how did the aliens *get* to this underwater mine?  Perhaps there's more than one access.  The marines arrive in the minisub moonpool, but the aliens entered the station on, say, a freighter offloading goods, through a surface link, freight delivery airlock, etc.  Might make a good area for the 3rd hive, too.

    Maybe they could get there by means of tunnels, or that they got into a sleep stasis and where rudely awakened by the prospectors. Either way, they could exist for thousands of years in stasis, like in egg pods or a sort slime.
