<div class="IPBDescription">argh i suck at it</div> i see some people and they web like gods!
but for some reason i really suck at it, when ever i try to web it disappears (all thats left is the bullet mark) or it goes in a straight line across the floor (basically a waste of web)

but i see people making perfect blockades above oc's and around hives, i dont know how they get it so perfect!

but any tips on doing it properly would be appreciated <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Webbing is actually quite easy... the web itself is a line between webbing dots that are the "impact holes" you see after shooting webs. After you shot the first web , each other web dot will be connected to the previous one to form webs , but only if there's nothing between them (BSP geometry or alien entities). After they are up , any marine crossing the line is webbed and considered skulk food (you can healspray him too)
Though it's not the optimal way of webbing because of jetpackers , spraying webs on the floor has its use : the marines are less likely to see it , especially if the floor is light gray.

    Most of all...

When you have your flashlight/aliensight "ON"

You will not see your own webs

therefore while webbing, turn your flashlight off, web, and then you WILL see the webs, not always, but 80% of the time you will. This is the web-bug, and will hopefully be fixed in 1.1

As for the webbing.... well... let's take an imaginary cubical room

    _________
................
................
................
................
    ---------------

ok, its not cubical, it sucks, and the dots are for spacing only, but I think you'll get my drift <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

look up at the ceiling, flashlight is off, and click one time while "webmode" is selected. then look at the floor and click once more... now you will see a straight line between those two places, thats the web. If you look closely, you will see a slightly blackish smudgy dot at those two places, thats where your web has "melted" onto the surface of the wall/ceiling/floor/etc.

now, If you look towards the ceiling and click once more, you will see the web continues. so you will have 2 strands of webbing: \/

now, this is the same way you can web up doorways, and other larger spaces.

Keep in mind that you can't shoot the webs for miles and miles across the map, but the range is PRETTY far, so you will be happy with it most of the time.
Seconds, as explained above, the web will always continue from it's last "websmudgything" if nothing is interfering with it ===> if its in some totally other place... if there is a beam in between etc
Third, you only have a limited number of webs !!! keep that in mind when you are webbing southloop up as much as you can <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Fourth, web strategically, one or two webs within the eclipse hive for instance is good, but web the entrances, web where it is narrow, read the WOL strategies in the forums how to do this.
Fifth, a jetpacker with a welder will annihilate your webs, so put them around corners etc, but you will learn that as you go...

Hope this helped a little bit, and you can always make a server at home (LAN , create server, etc) and enter "sv_cheat 1" in the console this should enable you to play by yourself, get 2 hives, and practise your beautifull webbing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (I'm not sure about this, I mean I tried it as well with sv_cheat, but my ressflow would remain low)

So, good luck, and I hope to fly into one of your webs one day <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Cheers m8

I like to make stars with webs infront of wol's :)
Then a single web on top of the wol and then a few behind it. The star is easy to weld, but the web on the wol is harder, and if a marine manages to get through those, he probably jumps on that last web.

i think i web differently to everyone, nevewr web unless u got an OC cos thats jsut a waste, placeteh web along the floor near an oc so they walk on to it in the oc's firing range... also up the sides of wall and along the roof, perhaps a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite one to to stop expert jpers.

    thats waht i do.

Its best to save your webs. Your team only has so many. So web entrances, or vents. Web is critical when facing rines, and a gorge teamed with skulks, or better yet Fades, can usually take down a team of marines, no matter what they are equiped with. Be it HA or JP, webbing brings all marines down to size, bends them over, and prepares them for a .. well you get the idea. If gorges a smart, they will web areas that stop marines infront of Ochambers. So put a few webbing on the floor infront of your wall of lame. If you do put webbing on the wall, odds are marines will use welders to get rid of it. This isnt necessarily a bad thing.

A trick i like to do is, make a few obvious webs when I know some heavies are coming. Order some skulks over for help, have em wait. When the heavies pull out their welders.. I order skulks to attack.. Marines will immediately switch to HMG, this is when you move forward and start webing AT THEIR FEET! Best to have Adrenaline. This immobalizes them, and makes them useless. Webbing is the most powerful weapon the aliens have. Because if used properly, it is bother defencive and offensive. Look at it like this. A Lerks Umbra only blocks 5 out of 6 bullets, a Onos Paralize only stops them from moving but they can still shoot. A gorges webbing, stops Marines from moving and most importantly stops them from shooting all together.

So in short, if you are shooting web and nothing is happening.. some idiot gorge has wasted all your teams web. So use web sparingly, it only takes one line to stop a rine in its tracks

Web only the entrances, dont worry about the hive, because you have hive site, and can build a movement wherever you are, to get to that hive thats under attack and web whatever is attacking it.

Web feet against heavies, web paths against JPers. And keep em webbed, till help arrives.

And Finally, web only areas where you have O chambers to fire on whatever becomes webbed.

I thought you could ignore the alien entities.

Here's a tip, if you've got a HA+welder taking all your web down as he comes towards you, form a web that actually crosses him where he is standing and he gets webbed instantly. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I use to do inverted pentagrams in doorways. I try to justify it with intimidating the enemy or something...

What's a wol? Do you mean "wall" ? And if so, the correct usage would be "walls" for the first quote, there's no need for a contraction.
