Sorry, I don't do anime. I think it is ridiculous and meaningless (Pokemon... DBZ... Give me a break!).
am i dreamin!?!! what world am i in?!
this cant be happening!!
so na!
The series itself was so mind-warping can u imagine wat a live-action ver woudl be like? Though it would be sexy to see a live-ver of Rei and Asuka *drools*..oo and Misatio too *drools*
*smack*
Perhaps if you would grow up from your imported elementary school Americanized animes and watch some of the real stuff, you wouldn't be as close-minded.
Oh, and I hope that this project ends up better than the Live Action Gundam movie. (G Savior?)
it better be! or else ADV is going to suffer the wrath of every anime fan around. Terrorist bombings! mass assisnation! o the horror shoudl ADV screw it up
heck no. They need to do Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory. SO many gunz! Big Gunz!
tht scene indeed rocked. Though another scene tht would be interesting to see in teh live-action would be when Eva Unit -01 kciks Eva Unit-03's ****. ;p
Let's just hope they don't do a live action version of Evangelion: Death&Rebirth and Air&Heart. Because those two movies blew chunks - I'll never forgive them for what they did in the last movie! >B(
And Akira is crap, no one understands it and it's just a bad movie.

Someone's got to put a downer on things....
Did you ever see the Onizuka live action?

And what exactly did you not understand about it, they had psychic powers that could very easily drive you insane. It was about what people who have unlimited power will do if they lost their minds.

o_O;; ghost in the shell *did* suck...way too short, skimpy plot development, no background, jerky plot movement, and once again, no plot development.
Akira wan't as bad as ghost in the shell, but it wasn't a good anime in my books by any stretch of the imagination. While a part of it may be about "people with unlimited power going insane," there's a whole bunch of other stuff besides that that doesn't really mesh together well with that at all. Tetsuo isn't even all-powerful, he's just the end result of some experiment gone wrong. There are so many loose ends in Akira...
A good anime in my books, for example, would be the Record of Lodoss War OAV, Evangelion (TV), Excel Saga, Fushigi Yuugi, Love Hina, among others.
Although this could be just my bias.
Akira in my mind is akin to "X' (the movie). X had little explanation for what was going on, and called for suspension of disbelief without giving much for the suspension to rest on.
The problem with Akira is that it's 6 HUGE volumes of manga, attempted to be compressed into an hour and a half anime. While it's not actually the greatest anime ever, it is still good, and the manga is, imho, better.

I didn't say anything about the manga, which i haven't read, but about the movie - it's terrible, and they shouldn't have attempted it on as low a budget as they had if they had wanted to make it good.
I know dude, i'm just saying that one of the reasons Akira sucked was the plot inconsistancies and the amount that doesn't actually make much sense. Which is because the manga was so extensive. I'm just sticking up for it.
And remember to bear in mind that Akira was released in 1989, it's not new, so animation, on par with the likes of Blood: The Last Vampire, cannot be expected.
I second that notion.
Now wheres a spork?
The same goes to some extent for Ghost in the Shell and the two (amazing) NGE movies.

Summaries of manga, while perhaps being good for the Japanese and those who actually have read the manga, don't excuse them from being accountable to normal rules of plot continuity (unless that was the original intent of the producer). Being an overview of a larger work doesn't excuse a crappy movie.
The two "amazing" NGE movies, while being quality, completely disgusted me in terms of being an ending. The first movie was just a recap, and the second one...*shudder*. It is not subject to the same criticism as GitS or Akira or X though.
