    don't have time to read, but making a game multiplayer can be very difficult, as you have to send data to each computer so that they all know what's going on, and sometimes it's more trouble than its worth. Back to work, I don't have much free time right now.

With Doom 3, because of the workflow, an artist would create a room and it would take <b>a week and a half to program</b>. Any changes to the room would require reworking so id chose the economical route.

    Another scary fact about Doom 3? <b>It has consumed over 60 man years of development time</b>. So long garage coders. Development costs have gone through the roof, with no end in sight.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Wow, so, it takes weeks to make a single room. More then 5 years to make a simple mod (Hostile Intent is taking 4+ years and its for the easily moddable Half-Life).

    Like I said before, Doom 3 will be a $50 tech demo. I just keep seeing them cut so many things out just so they can have the de facto game engine. All you ever hear them talk about is how revolutionary the engine is, how capable it is of producing movie quality CG, but where have they found time to concentrate on game balance and gameplay? I just dunno, this could be the downfall of id Software.

    I mean, just because you COULD make an engine that will still be top of the line in 5 years dosen't exactly mean you SHOULD <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    doesn't really matter to me, since i doubt doom3 would be any fun in multi anyway...

    Lies. Doom 3 has a good physics engine. Just watch the videos. If there's one false information then I assume everything else can be false. I don't believe this one.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->In the case of Doom 3, this has resulted in very little interaction with objects. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Hmm. Yep. Now I am sure not to buy this game. It's too bad.

    The logistics of making a game so graphically rich that it boggles the mind, and then making it capable of being shared among several players on a server with blazing speed is just near impossible. It is going to be harder and harder to have better graphics and multiplayer. Most of the work will have to be done on the client end.

    you were kidding right?

    And I dont belive that ID's marketing and strategy team would allow them to make it a single player only game. After what half-Life did, even games that are meant to be single only get multiplayer patches. Its a big cash cow

    especially with people saying stuff like: (see the quote)

    I usually dont touch multiplayer till I beat single on the hardest setting (unless the hardest setting is lame and meant to be played with cheats)

    Nope. Quake 4 will be made by Raven, not id.

    But it uses the Doom 3 engine <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    You CAN have good graphics and good multiplayer, I mean...Half-Life 2? Hello?

    The problem with these "exciting new games" which try to make a revolutionary new graphics and so on is.... They start making the "revolution" with limited technology... And end up wasting a LOT of preciouse time (IE years) to make something that then comes on the market and get's obsolete that moment.

    I've just seen too many of these go so. At first DoomIII was like: "WOW! What graphics!" Now, it's just average...

    Personally I think Doom 3 is already a failed game. The original two Doom titles were sold based on gameplay. I love splattering Imps with my shotgun. Unless this game is going to be able to reenact the fun of the first two, with no multiplayer mode, graphics aren't going to save it.

    Compared to what? HL2 maby? but not much else...

    I think Doom3 will be a great game. I think it was confirmed about a year ago that it would only be singleplayer with a multiplayer deal of some sort to come later (probably quake4, its not unusual these days for different developers to make the multiplayer component). Like unreal 2 and UT2003.

    I sure miss a good singleplayer experiance and doom3 seems to have atmosphere with a huge capital A.

    I sent off an email to a 'special friend' in Activision regarding that same story. He replied back and told me, "Don't believe everything you read".

    I'm not gonna believe it until it's confirmed in a .plan or a press release..

    dodgy might it be but it's hope

    Personaly I dont think I'll get Doom 3. Ok its got wicked graphics, but its looks kinda plain.
    I just feel I need to interact with the game envoirnment and from what I'v heard its almsot a streight shooter. The one thing I will asy about Doom 3 is that its engine will be good for other games. Too much time has been spent on the looks rather than the game its self.

    Think of it, a game like Resident Evil in the Doom 3 engine.

    System Shock with the Doom3 engine, now that would be the greatest game of all time!

    Especially if they added co-op...

    Nope, not enough interactibles, but yeh that would be cool.
    Maby when we get full VR suits SS3 will be made <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If we had VR suits that allowed us to play SS3, I would almost be too scared to play....

    Doom3 looks more like eye candy than anything else, I will try it though, but Im not upgrading for it (but I am upgrading for HL2!!)
  • RellixRellix Join Date: 2003-02-15 Member: 13572Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
    Its ok they would have a tube that collected weat and other liquids fromt he suit <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Still I was originally intending to upgrade at my birthday in September wich is very convient as it meens HL2 will be extra petty and that I can play any Doom 3 demo and say nah again.
