hi
Not everyone knows the world of natural-selection and its forums like the back of their hand.

Why is it so hard to answer questions here? I've never seen a less helpful community than this one (besides government offices).

I've seen submitters that will write three posts telling the topic starter to "search" this, PM someone, or just flat out flame the person instead of writing one post that actually addresses the topic. Why is it so hard to give someone information? I'm sorry if you guys get tired of repetitive posts. If it is such a big deal to you then maybe you need to not frequent the boards as much (doesn't apply to moderators - it's your job). It seems that all the regular submitters do is kiss the butt of the moderators/devs OR nitpick other people's posts. Flat out sad.

I'm not asking for red carpet treatment or even a welcome mat, but you people are just flat-out p-r-i-c-ks.

Some of you act like you are some new breed of gamer that has transcended space and time to be some sort of connoiseur. I have news for you. You are not.

I appreciate the game itself. I also administrate a server. Have a nice day.

Flaming the flamers, seems a tad hypocritical if you ask me.

But if you read the forum FAQs they do actually state to search for a topic. If people really can't be bothered to spend 5 seconds waiting for the search, then what makes them think we should spend far more time producing an eloquent reply to reward their laziness?

The fact that you waste your time to reply in the first place is reason enough to expect some form of a relevant response.
  • dr_ddr_d Join Date: 2003-03-28 Member: 14979Members
Here's your relevant response. It's irritating as hell to see Hl2? sub topic: NS? not even at the bottom of page 1, and then seeing at the top NS? sub topic: for HL2?. These people don't contribute a thing to the forums because all they want is answers to their questions right away. The fact that they are unwilling to go three pages deep into the general discussion forum and read a few posts shows they have absolutely no respect for other posters. Bottom line these people are leeches and I don't have to like them.

Any mods want to lock this topic?

hahahahahahahaha Sorry I couldn't contain myself. No offence intended.

Why should someone read three pages deep on anything to get a relevant response? That's rediculous. That's like me asking a gas station worker for directions and him telling me to go visit the city's welcome center and ask them (even though he knows the directions).

It's almost as if the regulars feel their status is in jeopardy by the postings of random passers-by.

He brings forth a valid complaint.

I can't say I'm not guilty of this. I remember back in the old days... before I would lock a repeat post, I used to post a link to a more relevant topic of the same. Somewhere, in the past two years... my patience wore thin. We're all a little guilty, and it does pain me to see some of the impatience in many of our forum members. Apologizing, however, is over-rated... What should we, as a community, do to remedy this? Thoughts?

One way to be less imposing on newcomers would be to address the subject of their post BEFORE scolding/rejecting/mocking them. Save the inside jokes for the end of your posts.

If any of you feel like you are the "regulars" and that this is your territory........you can project that sentiment to irregular forum visiters through your knowledge of the game.

Anyways, I'm done sharing what you probably think are quasi-philosophical ideals. Have a nice day.

A simple line stating "This topic has been covered before, please search the forum" is scolding/rejecting/mocking them?

Considering the FAQs say "Please read before posting", rest assured very few actually do, if they walk into something blindly because they didn't bother to spend a few minutes reading the code of conduct for the forums then they, quite frankly, deserve the flames they apparently so often recieve.

I ask you this, if you burnt down someone's house, and were going to get sent to prison, would the judge let you off if you claim that you were unaware arson was a crime?

I do agree somewhat. No one should have the right to flame anyone else, under any circumstances.

On the other hand, your saying that research on certain topics does not need to be done. On certain topics, it isn't required... but, when stating a new idea in the "ideas and suggestion" forum, I think one would have the common sense to see if anyone else mentioned it.

Nevertheless, I do agree in certain aspects. The only problem is that your totally going against your idea.

I dunno man, Im not gonna tell anybody to do anything on the internet, know what I mean? I'd just take it easy, you'll find whatever youre looking for eventually and hey, if you cant then it probably wasnt very important. And if it's the worst thing that happend to you that day, feel lucky.

On the contrarary, man, this is a very helpful and good community. The model + skin forum community is so tight, i am suffocataing. Hhahahah. No.
The reason why every shouts at people "use the search" is because it used to be, and still is that people just post a whole new thread asking-" where do i find this?" or "is this done yet". After a while it just gets annoying.
FOr a forum, there has been very low levels of flaming here. Its just twitchiness and overacting.

Ive been flamed on teh ideas and suggestions forums when i first came on simple because, like many other people, i didnt care to read the faq, and i didnt realise that almost ANY idea i ahd had been talked to death or flamed on the spot.

I got over it, Try reading a bit, after you spend some time on the forums youll understand teh reason behind the agitation toward people who post topics that have died already, because it happens so often.

Watch the forums a while, learn what a bump is, and stop complaining cause im getting headache at all the nubs that come in here thinking they are better than everyone, You included, being a server admin doesnt give you special privelages, so why bring it up?

uhm...i doubt you're talking to me because i don't do that to people. but i can understand from both sides how frustrating it is, when you want answers and you don't get them because more "experienced" players don't appeal to repeating themselves. people who see the same threads float up again and again, get aggitated (i guess), and simply think this n00b should go look for the answers for themself from previous threads.
granted, that doesn't give them the right to comment, "look it up yourself" to a thread that is seeking help. why they do that and not leave the thread for others to answer... i don't know. you only need to state that once. or maybe others have nothing better to do, then add another post count to their counter i guess. flamers, i dont' know what their problem is, they just seem to have a nasty attitude online. i'm sure most of them would dare not say the same things if you were standing face to face in person. of course there are going to be people that don't read webbed topics or faqs, they're new! they don't know anything about this place yet. (imo, i say who cares and just deal.. this shouldn't even be an issue with people.)
i think we can learn together new or old players stuff about the game or any topic! i think people give in their fair share of knowledge in off-topic. i don't see why they don't do the same thing in other forums. that's prolly one of the worst types of spam out there. no new person can really help asking the same questions that were asked before. searching for old topics aren't 100% efficient, being that not all titles contain the actual topic in them.

ah yes..before i forget, welcome to the forums eliotmat.

ah but teh search feature searches for the word you type in on ALL posts in the forum, so if you type in NS youll get 10 million and one matches. Plus, i did the same thing too, and found its faster, easier, and more efficient to jsut search, becuase people arent always on who can answer your questions, and almost every question ahs been asked. So why not look at those answers..i doubt they change.

    And thats my input.

i think because new people think, it'd be more faster to just ask somebody. and i'm not aware if they are aware of the search feature. i doubt they do.
