<div class="IPBDescription">how is 30 secs marine speed is equiv to.</div> I was wondering if anyone would know how many units long a hallway would be such that it will take the minimum 30 seconds for a marine to go from one end to the other end. My current research/guess puts its that a marine speed is at least 200+ units/sec though i think its TOTALLY off. Can anyone provide a a It more accurate number?
I think such data will be useful because it will allow more planning off-the-comp so to say.

even if you take out the slow HA you still get a surprisingly large difference between a full ammo marine and a marine without ammo.
I personally just test speeds after noclipping in from the Ready Room (I do that to keep screenshots nice and clean looking). As long as you test the travel times with the same character speed (i.e. not switching to alien partway through or something), you'll be fine.
In an aside, I managed to get the hive-to-hive times in ns_veil to be accurate within .2 seconds and the marine spawn to hive routes by about .5 seconds - all eyeball estimates in-editor. Woo.
1 player moving at one body space per second = 30 x 32
answer = 960 units approx
maybe this calculation is totally wrong but it makes sense to me unless the movement speed is greater than one body space per second and if it is then just re-adjust the math.
On the map i'm currently working on it takes 54 seconds to get from the Marine Start to the Hive that's already finished.
I put quite some work into the layout before starting to work in Hammer, so i HOPE that times will be as long for the other hives as well.
But I also think a mapper should consider, when thinking about the time/distance between hives/marine base, that a shorter distance does not mean, it is an easier way, too!
When finishing the second hive, I'll test if it takes as long as it takes to get to the first hive... if it takes too less time, I'll add some more cover and other elements to make the area more "dangerous"...
just a quick thought anyway...

A difference in travel time as small as 5 seconds can make the difference between a hiveroom that gets siezed first and and the one that gets captured last and rarely sees any action.
