<div class="IPBDescription">Just wondering</div>What are the chances that the fact that hivemind is programed into the game means that the marines can be hacked to use it... Im obviously not a playtester and obviously havent seen the code... But this seems like something that would have been an afterthought if i were making it. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->  I havent seen this posted before, so feel free to flame me if i double posted

Well what if the marines had the ability to completely <b>own</b> the other team, every game, no matter what? If it's an issue then Flayra would most likely have a high priority of fixing it, hmmm?

Not to sound mean but I think Flayra and his team of beta testers are hard at work finding and fixing such bugs, expecially ones that obvious <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

so, since Flayra is god and BOB is the devil..
Flayra gonna give us a cheatfree game, all we have to do is warship Flayra all day long.  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

New question, and I personally have no idea what cheat-prevention stuff Flayra is doing. I think the cheat prevention is more in Valves hands right now, but I may be wrong. Obviously the game needs some knowledge to crack, but to what extent, I have no idea.

No, I don't think that would be possible as it's not the same thing as a radar hack or wallhack. Those are all client side and I doubt the server sends hivemind info to every player, it should only send them to aliens otherwise it's a waste of bandwidth.

Even if it were possible, it wouldn't make a huge difference.  Marines can already research motion detection, and they have radar from the start, both of which give them similar capabilities.

but motion detection is a late advancement and hive sight would give marines the locations of all aliens no matter where all the time

As for it being cheatable?  I doubt it, as was said, the data probably isn't sent to marines.  Then, could there be a way of fooling the server into sending that info?

Theorizing about exploiting compiled code, without having access to the code, is (pardon the expression) purely mental masturbation. Of course there could be <i>some way</i> to exploit the code. You just won't know until the mod releases, gets popular enough for sopmeone to bother writing an exploit, then download a patch that fixes it.

It hadn't even occurred to me that it might be used that way, Gwahir.  Serves me right for not thinking like a cheater. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

So <i>thats</i> what greedo does with his free time.

I was just thinking about possible cheats that could lower NS on the same level as CS.  I hope vavle/flayra can develope something that is extremely hard to break.  If that is possible?

They only have to worry about cheaters when the mod gets popular. Then, the fixes will come as fast as the cheats. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

I wouldn't worry about it too much, yet.

Instead worry about your hair catching fire or burglers breaking in through the window and stealing your PC. Both of these would lead to you being unable to play NS... Of course don't wait for these terrible things to happen, send £100 to Mart's Oven Experts, P.O. Box 2500, Basildon Essex, and we'll send you our Fam Endorsed 'NS Protection Kit'.

For all you dedicated NS lovers out there <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Ok mart, we all know that I fix ovens about 200% better than you do.  I am sure you were good -- back in your day.  Now its my day, my time.  Move aside.. /me puts on toolbelt.
<span style='color:black'>Mart, you smell like pee pee.  Take a bath sometime!</span>
*About NS becoming popular*  Dont you think NS will be popular about 2 weeks into the release of beta 1?  I do -- I think monse is gonna be doing some mad pimping.  However, I am sure that cheating will not becuase <i>that</i> big of a problem.  Or at lease I hope..
