Esc Problem

Whenever I hit escape during gameplay on Half-Life or any of the mods, the screen goes black and my computer completely freezes. It didn't used to do this. I tried uninstalling Half-Life but that didn't work. Is it possible that my video card may be responsible for this? It's a video card 64MG AGP. I know this is pretty bad, but this is a fairly recent problem so my cpu didn't used to do this with the same card. Well if anyone knows what I can do... I'd appriciate the help. ty

    That happens to me sometimes too (not very often thought).
    So do you use the ESC key, when you are going to leave the game?
    If you are i suggest, that you use console instead. Just type "quit" or "exit" in console. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you have an ATI card, then don't use the latest Catalyst drivers v3.2. Switch back to the v3.1 drivers and the problem will go away. The v3.2 drivers have a bug that causes the system to blackscreen and lockup if you press ESC or ALT-TAB while in HL.

    I believe there are patches released for this problem.
    I don't know, as I don't have a ATI-card anymore.

    I already do that... the problem is I can't test out custom maps, or play with bots. The reason for this being when I host a server on lan or internet, 1/4 of the screen is covered with the ns menu and the only way to get rid of it is to press esc and go back in. I don't know if this is just my problem once again. Also, when I'm playing Half-Life, there is no console to type exit into...
