I'd choose lvl 3 weapons first. It gives the lmg&shotgun a real power boost that they need to be able to kill the heavier kharaa. I still love the smell of a fade blowing to piece by two shotgun blasts.
Upon that, it also makes the sentries more powerfull and makes the jp/HMG combo virtually undestructible for skulks. It alows the jp/HMG to smite a hive all by itself.
as lvl 1 weaps and armor are usually first to be uppgraded . u should have both before the skulks have cara.
if thats the situation there is no point goign for lvl1 weaps first as it does not make u kill skulk quicker . it still takes exactly the same number of bullets.
where as lvl1 armor lets a marine take another bite before dieing.
If nothing else, Weapons lvl 3 gives you more confidence in yourself to kill those Skulks. And vs good Skulks, if they get close to you it doesn't matter how much armor you have.....
I think it depends on the situation really. Upgrading from 0 to 1 gives the same boost as 2 to 3, and not nearly the amount of resources. They just aren't proportional and it doesn't really make sense. When I command the ONLY time I get level 3 anything is if we have resources comming out of the wazoo or I know that the game will last more than an hour, where both sides have dug in a fair amount of resources for a HA vs Fades situation (which is seldom). Other than that level 3 upgrades are a waste, and you don't get nearly the bang for your buck as level 1 or 2 upgrades.
As a suggestion I would like to see maybe a situation of cheaper upgrades at the higher levels, but same amount of time.
At the start of a round, Armor level 1 is crucial. Gives your marines a tad better life expectancy. After a while and a secured hive point, Weapons level 1, then 2 and 3. Then continue with armor.
For me its goes W1, A1, W2, A2. level 3 for both Weapons and Armour is very rarely worth it unless you have resources multiplying like bunnies on viagra. I will always go for Armour and weapon upgrades over toys as it is simply more cost effective as everyone shares the benefits. It's like egalitarian man. I agree. lvl3 weapons will give you're marines more confident. Sometimes so confident that they'll rip a fade down in a group of two. This is no joke. I've seen this working.
It is always best to alternate, starting armor, then weapons. A rine that lasts longer can pump more bullets, no matter how deadly he is. And of course level 3 weapons are useful. They give fades a run for their money and downright flatten even carapaced skulks.
I always begin with Armour...then I might try to get lvl 3 weapons with shotguns...get that before aliens get 2nd hive and shotguns will tear everything apart...
1. In the early going I have the team securing places, not attacking. They should be doing more building than shooting. This means they are going to be hit first.
2. It has been said that a LMG marine has a chance of taking down a fade. This leads to individualism. I try to have my team split into 2 groupes this way their fire power is increased without upgrades. A pesky lerk or fades can stay way back and give alot of damage to marines. With L2 armor they can stay together longer. If equiped with a welder they live even longer.
3. If aliens have 2 hives you need HA. The problems with HA is they need to spend more time welding each other in order to stay alive. With 290 armor the need for a weld will be less often. I equipe all HA with HMG/Welder which costs 60 res and with the HMG they have the Weapon upgrade they need. Some I give GL which cost even more.
4. Armor for JPacking. For a marine to fly to a hive they usually have to go past a couple of OT. This means the will probaly get hit once. With no armor they will be dead soon after and all that res will be wasted.
5. Confidence. Maybe if your playing with a bunch of newbs Weapons would be better but after the first weapon upgrade how many newbs know what weapon upgrade they have? They can easily see how much armor they have. Remember if your playing with your clan then they don't need confidents only strenght.
6. It all comes down to this. Weapons for short games and less chance of winning/Armor for long games with better chance of winning. If you want a short game upgraded weapons will do it one way or another. I perfer the longer ones maybe thats why I prefer Armor.
It depends, 2 hives is really hard to combat (oddly enough) if you don't have to right equipment. You mainly need higher level guns, my philosophy is "If you kill them first, they wont be hurting you as much". At 2 hives try to have 2 weap 2 armor or possibly 3 weap 1 armor. (Idealy 3W 3A) And yes weapon 3 is worth it towards the end, if you have good income.
I disagree completely. I find ammo upgrades more important then armor. Unless they are getting a second hive, I dont even worry about level 2 armor, except as a luxury. I rely heavily on 1 or 2 marines defending base, or certain locations, while everyone else keeps the aliens busy. Skulks dont really become effective till lvl 3 carapace anyways, and when that comes you should have lvl 2 guns upgraded or in the process. And the way I see it, Armor is only good when it is maintained. So I have to drop, and keep dropping welders to maintain that armor? Fuhget that. Ammo is free to all at the armory, fixing armor isnt.
In short level 3 guns has more bonuses then lvl 3 armor.
- Sentry Turrets do more damage
- Fresh Marines (straight off of IP) gain advantage over Skulks/Lerks/Gorges.
- Helps more in the long run (don't even try to kill an Onos with level 1 guns. "Not even with a hunder-thousand could you do this, it is folly")
- Marines attacks are mostly distance
- You can dodge skulk attacks if you time them right (Think of a Bullfighter and say "Olay!")
- You always spawn back, so dying is an option.
- Watching a Fade retreat is funny
- 2 Marines firing 1 LMG clip + 1 pistol clip can kill a fade with carapace.
- Fades with Redemption are more of a neusance then a threat, and redempting back every 5 seconds is annoying, so they'll die or quit.
- lvl 3 guns actually makes not getting carapace suicidal.
is it ok ? will i need to change it ? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Is that a true story? I sincerely doubt it, but if so, link please :_p
in the bottom line it's 60 res and lots of waiting.. if are in tight spot go for the stuf that will save u.. HA/hmg.. 2 jp/hmg.. i think that lvl 2 wep 1 a is enough.. after u done that.. finsih the aliens.. asap..
Therefore. I chose weapons upgrades first. Of course if your marines cant shoot a skeet in front of them on the ground.. then your goina have some problems.

Why? Carapace... that's why.
Uppgrades are investments, rember that once your HA marine is dead, 25 res goes to waste, while the 60 res on a lvl 3 armour will go from then...
Its all about where youre heading in game...
I prefer to uppgrade after I have taken one hive and stock up on res to take out both hives in one final strike of 7-8 HAs with max gear =)

Im not a big building person, i layout very few turrets and TF. In fact i rarely use phase gates, especially on good jp maps/tunnels/vents.
This allows me to start upgrading EARLY.
LOL
lvl 3 anything usually happens a bit latter in the game
