The prices seemed a bit odd. With the price of the 700mb storage capacity I could most likely get a registered domain name and 1Gb from other hosts.

Xexe:
You do realize that 1Gb hosting capacity isn't exactly cheap?

If you want free hosting, the most likely maximum amount of space you can get is between 30 and 50 megabytes. For anything more, you either need a friend who can host your pages for free (unlikely) or you need to cough up the dough for the host. The monthly costs of hosting vary somewhat but be prepared to pay about 50$ a month for it.

For example, my ISP provides me with 20mb free space and a web address where I can store the pages (mind you, I do NOT get my own domain). Because my personal pages are actually my club night's site, I've decided that in order to make the club site's address easier to remember, I'm going to buy a domain and hosting for it. If I remember correctly, the domain registration and initial hosting setup will cost me about 50-60$, after which I will have to pay about 25-30$ a month for the domain and hosting. With this package I get 1Gb storage space, SQL and CGI support plus a bunch of other nice features.

Domain name registration lasts for one year, and costs $20 a year, usually. Anything else is maintaining the server.

Sorry to break it to you, but you won't find an "easy" free host that will give you 1 GB of transfer/month.

The "easy" hosts that let you drag and drop words and pictures to make your webpage will most likely give you 20 MB or less of space, and almost no transfer at all. In fact, most of them have protection that will prevent exactly what you're trying to do with making a site to host off-site downloads.

You can register a domain name for $8.95/year at http://www.godaddy.com and get $5.95/month hosting with http://www.wbws.net, but that's about as cheap as you're gonna get.
