    Use UDP+TCP just because I'm not sure which is which.

    I believe that is all you need. Might not even need all of them, but nothing else is using it, so who cares. If you want to be able to play from the same machine as the dedicated server, use a port besides 27015, like 27016(good for testing something like a map). Good luck!

    You will not see your server in the "internet" list, because half-life sees your server on your lan. As you mentioned, it will be listed under "LAN". However, anyone outside your lan will see your server on their internet list. You have to connect with your LAN ip and the ousiders connect with your WAN ip. The only port you need to open is your server port (eg 27016). I would recommend a server port other then 27015 so that it doesn't interfere with your connecting to other servers while your dedicated server is running.

    That's a perfect way to test. Any of the major game-browsers should work. <a href='http://www.serverspy.net' target='_blank'>http://www.serverspy.net</a> is handy for these kinds of tests, as it's entirely web-based, and the search capabilities are decent.

    Well, i looked on gamespy and serverspy, and i found no indications of my server being on the internet?

    Oh, and im not hosting on my main PC, im hosting on a secondary Computer that go's through a router and then through the firewall? Might this be whats wrong?

    Maybe im not just not understanding someting. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I have a linksys router/firewall. Dunno if this will help, posting it anyways.

    You will need to configure your Linksys to forward port 27015 traffic to the IP address of your hosting computer.

    Could you explain your network setup in detail?
  • GuspazGuspaz Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2862Members, Constellation
    The only incomming port (from the internet) you need to allow is 27015. Outgoing there are various others. As boris said, 6003, 7002, 27010, and recently in the newest HLDS patch (x.1.1.1), they added 27040 UDP outgoing.

    Don't want to make anyone out to be an idiot, but is sv_lan set to "0"? Just thinking of all the possibilities. Make sure it is easy to find your server so you know it's working.

    Before posted....try the search button next time.

    <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=8&t=10541&hl=ports&s=' target='_blank'>http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...541&hl=ports&s=</a>

    NAT routing doesn't block outgoing by defualt so you shouldn't have to enable any "outgoing" ports...

    everyone has there moments. Its the number of moments you have the will set you apart from the rest. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> i'm just kidding man, i know the search is kinda hard to use, but i know i've answered this question a ton, so i knew to filter by my handle to limit the results. I'm sure others answered it as well, but i am the only one that i knew.

    Yes please add more detail about your network. If your hosting computers ip is 68.14.161:225, then what is your workstations? I would assume this is DSL since you are running from a router, to a firewall to the server. What OS is the server? Are these on the same lan segment?

    Thanks
  • a_M-Takera_M-Taker Join Date: 2003-03-27 Member: 14942Members
    No, I don’t have DSL. I have a cable modem. I don’t have time at the moment to post my details cause Im at school. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> But what do you mean though by explaining in detail? Like how my computer is routed or what? Sorry once again. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Like how did your computers get the ip's they have now? Did you assign them are they done by dhcp? Here is my setup, but mine is a little more complex than shown.

    Internet ---> FreeSCO Router ----->Servers 10.0.1.x

    Using this I forward all TCP and UDP requests from 27015 and 27016 to my hl server. My router is not a hardware router is a Linux distro meant for routing. I also have a 2nd lan segment for my workstations.

    This should help you - it will work for Natural Selection also:

    I have been trying to run a dedicated server through a dynamic ip. Internet(Dynamic) ->Dsl Modem -> router> server(dhcp 192.168.0.103). The problem i am having is that hl will only recognize my server on the dhcp and not the internet ip. Would manually changing the ip make my server recognizable on the internet? I have forwarded all ports(DMZ) to my server(192.168.0.103).
