Who here thinks valve should hire flayra?

Raise your hand!
NS is shaping up to be one of the best (if not the best) Half Life Mod around. If "The Team" gets this right (which I think and pray they will), then the RTS of the year may not be a standalone product, but a Mod. Of course, it will have to beat our Warcraft III...

But no matter what, Valve would be smart to hire Flayra (and to buy NS and offer it retail for the lowly high pingers :-P ). I always figured that the revolution of RTS games would be, well, a game! I've been thankfully proven wrong.

flayra @ valve would be a bad idea
becouse it means ever great game he develops
    if not free

when working on a mod however the game will be "free" and more ppl will enjoy flayra's great games

p.s : this is probably more a off topic post

    Hey Jammer.

I too think it would be wonderful if NS got picked up by a publisher and was sold at retail stores. I wouldn't be suprised if it happened either.

Concerning Flayra... yes. I'm not on the development team, but it's still been amazing "working" with him... he's very professional about everything. I see big things happening for him. In my eyes, NS is revolutionary for a game, not just a mod... that says something to me.

yep I'm with Ken, besides i wouldn't mind buying NS, of course i already have HL so no point in buying it, but it's just such a great game , I wouldn't mind paying a small amound of money for it.Pretty sure NS will go retail ^_^ And that's not a bad thing, it means more servers and it provides the team with resources so they can keep working on the game d:)

    if NS goes retail
then we get zillions of lamers that ruin the game
    just like the CS community

Not necessarily. In fact, if I remember correctly, the CS community's lamers predated the retail release by quite some time.

But the fact of the matter is, regardless of whether NS goes retail or not, there will be lamers in the community. That just can't be escaped with a popular game. And the best way to deal with them is not to try to get rid of them. It's to shrug, say "oh well," and go play on Fam's server instead of the public one with all the lamers.

Oh, and Fam: when ns comes out, you should probably change your server password, if you know what I mean.

Correct: I first recall the l4m3rz in beta 5.x er... whenever they added the FBs and shiznit- you'd have people flashing their own team at the worst moments just because they could.

    argh. I need sleep.

as for flayra working at valve that'd be cool and all, but then TF2 would turn into NS2... wait! what's wrong with that?!?!?!?? ehehehhheheheheheheheh

maybe but a retail version opens the game up to more ppl. and there's a conflict between the way mods usualy work and the way retail games usualy work. MODS because of their nature have constant change. Commercial games are mainly constant with maybe a few balance changes in patches. Ppl who buy a retail product tend to think that it won't change because they paid money for the way it was not to whatever the has changed in newest patch. Of coarse they'll always be few that resist change but i think retail ppl tend to be like this more often.

NS does have quite the chance to go retail. I was talking to someone today about NS, and he was surpised that it was mod not a stand-alone game. Heck, I might even buy a copy, just to help out NS's sale.

*About if NS went retail and the lamers invaded us*

I think that after most of them read these fourms they would accualty not try to act like tards, lamers, etc. I dont see too much of it now but then again sypder does do this job well. Lets just hope that the maturity level on these fourms, and the quick-response-moderators™ can help make the lamers into well rounded, mature, teamplayers! w00t!

IMO flay would be better off working with a company that isn't valve, preferably one that he chooses. or maybe starts a company himself. personally i would love to see NS move to different engines at different points in time and i can't see that happening if flay (and therefore NS) goes to work for valve. not that i have anything against valve though, it's just that i can only picture NS developing to it's full potential if flay can just run with it and is hampered as little as possible by restrictions such as deadlines and other stuff. and there is this one thing that i would like to do at some point in the future concerning game development, and currently flay is the only programer that i know and would trust to help me with it. (i actually haven't asked flay about this yet and AFAIK no one on the forums apart from me knows what it is. PM me if your really curious)

but back to the point, anything that flay does career-wise should and most likely will be up to him and any significant other that he might have.

Hmm, I don't see why NS couldn't be developed to it's fullest potential if Flayra joined Valve... Wouldn't the TF2 engine be good enough for NS2?

Hasn't Flayra mention how wonderful it would be to work in a office, or something like that?
