These Doom fanatics are still sore over the fact that HL set the bar for FPS and picking apart screenshots just reeks of desperation. Doom 3 will just be more eye candy with pretty lighting, extensive bump mapping, and mind blowing models. That aside it will be completely linear with a dissapointing multi-player. Anyone who has played the leaked demo saw that it plays more like resident evil with creepy maps and monsters constantly popping up behind you.
I'm willing to bet HL2 will have more of the interesting plot twists, humor, and characters that made the first one so good since companies generally bank on success of earlier works. And if the multiplayer is anything like HL's it will still stand as the only non-mind-numbing multiplayer FPS out there.
So to sum up Doom3= "Well that was a really cool looking game, man those zombies rocked!" "Guess I'll go play HL2 some more"

The most ideal situation is that both D3 and HL2 will be magnificient and won't require Cray computers to run.

What does being first have to do with setting a bar? That's why were not still driving steam-powered tri-cycles around. HL engine is based on quake1 engine just like michael jackson is based on a black man, in other words lots of work done.
