One thing that I really enjoy about this forum, is that MOST of the people who congregate here are actually mature players and have good sportsman like conduct. So this brings me to my next question, "What servers do you all mostly play on?" Right now I play a lot on my clan server since I find that most people who play there are mature, but, I would like to open up some more doors and play with other people as well. When you mix it up you tend to learn much much more. But I will say this, I played on a french server the other day...
I was alien and there were 5 of us. the other 4 were gorges.
Spamming offense chambers and sensories at 1 hive. needless to say res flow was low and I was the only one doing combat. Cloaking was fun until they got motion tracking. Oh yea, constant whimsical music over the voice comm or silly frenchmen talking. I don't play on specific servers, I search by whatever map I feel like playing and take the lowest-pinging server with over 9 people.
nicely orgransied most of the time, kharaa and TSA sides.

it really mostly depends on the time you play it on. And the people.
You really can get to a pickup game level if you find the right people, and that's always better than what I have seen on other servers.
Indeed, there's like 90% of the french clans (if we can call them like that) that barely know how to play, but that's not a reason to not play on our french servers is it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I usually play on the RaB servers and d/y servers. (now that our server is down) Avoid servergamers ns-fr.com (I have been told that JP+HMG rushes are useless, and you needed turrets at base to protect against fade on this server)
Not only that but I get called a cheater for winning 1vs2 fades. It's not my fault they don't claw when I'm stuck to them and they don't take carap :/
And its still amazing that while being shot, if you stop moving and cloak, they stop shooting. So far everytime ive done this, theyve stopped, and ive waited till they walked up to me and then bite/claw them.

and my clan server which will be getting dual mp 2000 +'s and a gig of ram... just waiting for a better connection!

Look the french community might not be the best in the world but at least its french so that's a + for me :/

This server doesn't exist or is down right now. I get only these french servers:
1) 12-18 max players. More or less just isn't fun with current game balance, but this may change in 1.1 (mostly because of the resource model changes, but 2v2 still won't be fun because of logistics).
2) Servers hosted by clans with mature players. I want admin-ed servers, but I also want the admins to be fair and act in the best interest of the server, not just their clan. Sure, care about your clan and all, but don't bother to have a pub open at all if you're gonna abuse anyone who joins it.
3) Close to home. Eastern sea-board servers thru the eastern half of the plains give me decent pings.
4) Servers with a solid regular player base. Most of the servers that I play on now (DW,ds, and a few others) share the same player base anyways, because of geographical reasons, etc., but I still wanted to point this out. If at least half your team knows what you're doing, you can still get stuff done, so I try to maximize the odds of that happening. Another interesting tidbit: this kind of an environment is kinda newbie-friendly, despite how competetive it is. Sure, you're gonna get completely owned if you don't know how to play the game yet (so play with bots for a few days, read the forums, etc. first), but then you can learn about being part of a team and how strats work by playing with the big boys.

I second this recommendation.
Roob's server is great because of the fact that there is almost always as admin around, and CD is required. The first means that lamers get kicked / banned pretty fast, and the second cuts down on the newbies because new players tend not to have CD (not to be cruel, but a game without newbies tends to be better simply because having to explain everything you say and do becomes tiresome).
